Overview

The Teacher will work closely with the Program Manager and Academic Advisor to provide academic support in math and reading for children in grades K-5. Instruction and activities are designed expressly to promote subject mastery, develop grade-level competencies, and teach study skills. This is a school-year, part time position between the months of September to June for 2020-2021 school year. Hours are 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm Monday through Friday.

The Role

The teacher must have the competencies, skills, and proven leadership ability to successfully model, promote, and embody the Family First in Education mission, goals, and vision for serving the community. Other essential responsibilities of the Teacher include the following:

  • Insures the safety and engagement of children in assigned group.
  • Provides careful, attentive supervision, alert at all times.
  • Document, monitor, and share weekly academic and social-emotional progress.
  • Maintain accurate classroom records as assigned and according to program requirements.
  • Positively manage student behavior and routines to maximize learning time and to create a positive learning environment.
  • Follows program lesson plans and implementation plan in a developmentally appropriate manner, meeting the individual physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the participants.
  • Provide assistance with homework and encourage academic progress.
  • Facilitates a program environment that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children.
  • Work with students to develop a high level of self-motivation, self-confidence, and anxiety-reducing and other management skills necessary for comprehensive success.
  • Regularly reflect on professional progress and actively seek professional resources to continuously refine practices.
  • Communicates regularly with parents; attends parent/family events as designated by supervisor.
  • Attend and actively participate in all staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Acknowledge and celebrate student efforts, accomplishments, and progress to create a cohesive culture of academic and personal success.
  • Serve as a role model for students being served by adhering to policies and practices of Family First in Education.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with Bachelors Degree preferred.
  • Head Teacher Certificate preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to demonstrate competence in analyzing student’s educational and social-emotional needs and effectively provide effective solutions and support.
  • Must possess oral, auditory and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess strong organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Be a team player - a desire to work in a team-oriented environment and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
