Job Title: Mental Health Consultant
Position Type: Part-time, Consulting (1099)
Position Summary:
Family Centers is seeking a qualified Mental Health Consultant to provide expert guidance and support to the organization’s staff, administration, and families in accordance with Connecticut Licensing Regulations. The Mental Health Consultant will be responsible for offering advice, resources, and observations to support the mental health and well-being of children enrolled in Family Centers' programs, as well as assisting staff in managing behavioral and emotional issues. The Consultant will also play an active role in reviewing program policies and procedures, offering educational support, and maintaining proper documentation. Must be available approximately ten hours per month.
Key Responsibilities:
- Consultation: Be available to consult by phone and in-person with the Director, staff, and parents regarding mental health concerns and issues related to children enrolled in the program.
- Program Review: Annually review and provide feedback on the program’s policies, procedures, and social services plan in accordance with Connecticut state regulations.
- Observation and Referral: Observe individual children as needed and offer appropriate referrals or additional support services.
- Educational Support: Serve as a resource for parents and staff, offering educational information and strategies for supporting children’s mental health and social-emotional development.
- Staff Support: Offer guidance and support to staff in addressing specific challenges or concerns related to children, parents, or staff dynamics.
- Site Visits and Presentations: Be available to visit the programs and present educational material or facilitate discussions on child development, mental health, and related topics.
- Documentation: Keep detailed records of consultation activities, observations, and any other relevant interactions in a log maintained at the center for a minimum of two years.
- Annual Reviews: Complete an annual review of the program’s policies, plans, and educational materials, providing feedback and recommendations, as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Licensed mental health professional (e.g., Licensed Professional Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or Psychologist) (License does not have to be in CT)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children in an educational or clinical setting
- Strong knowledge of early childhood development, mental health, and behavioral issues in young children
- Ability to collaborate effectively with parents, staff, and administration
- Familiarity with Connecticut Licensing Regulations for early childhood programs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and document sensitive information accurately
Compensation:
Compensation will be based on experience and the scope of services provided.
