BASIC PURPOSE: Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Revenue Cycle Specialist is responsible for performing a range of functions within the Revenue Cycle, in order to maximize reimbursement for the services that FCC provides while supporting agency financial goals
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interprets, applies and communicates FCC policies regarding medical and financial aspects of patient care to assure optimal reimbursement for both the patient and FCC. Prioritize and complete work assignments within established productivity/quality metrics. Utilize FCCs Electronic Health Record (EHR) to coordinate revenue cycle operations with program/clinical needs.
- Use essential thinking skills in order to identify opportunities for operational improvement, standardization; recommends and implements effective changes to workflow. Counsels and assists patients, as well as internal clinical/operations staff, with billing concerns and/or questions in order to improve payment turnaround time and maximize reimbursement. Work closely with the Revenue Cycle Lead staff to assure billing issues are corrected timely.
- Proactively seek informational and educational opportunities in order to stay current with billing guidelines, rules, regulations, and Revenue Cycle industry trends.
- Maintain regular communication with Supervisor and other Revenue Cycle staff to ensure he/she is properly informed of updates, concerns, and staff issues.
- Perform other duties as deemed necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position or as assigned by the supervisor.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ENVIRONMENT:
Education, Training and Work Experience: HS Diploma or equivalent, relevant experience in finance, collections, customer service, insurance and/or health care environment is preferred. Ability to multi-task and quickly change focus in a fast-paced work environment that utilizes multiple technology platforms. Strong planning and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Specialized Knowledge & Skills: Detail oriented, focused, organized, takes initiative. Works well in a team setting. Experience handling difficult situations with customers. Basic knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-9 coding. Basic computer skills, i.e. email, word processing, spreadsheets, and search engine type programs.
Equipment & Applications: Independently executes computer applications including Gmail, Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel.
Work Environment & Physical Demands: Typical office environment conditions with long periods of sitting. Minimal, bending, lifting, twisting, and standing; infrequent lifting. Minimal travel required.
