Position Summary
Supervise, plan, and coordinate the operations and activities of assigned playground and youth activities programs within the Family & Community Services Department; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public and perform a variety of administrative tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, social work, recreation services, education, or general studies; and
Five (5) years of experience in recreation activities coordination or working with youth programs; and
To include one (1) year lead or supervisory experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
Preferred Knowledge
- Operations, services and activities of community recreation program
- Principles and practices of playground and youth program planning and implementation
- Modern office methods and equipment including computers
- Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
- Occupational hazards ad standard safety practices
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and safety regulations
Preferred Skills & Abilities
- Supervise, organize and review the work of lower level staff
- Coordinate youth programs at an assigned community center
- Recommend and implement goals and objectives for providing youth programming services
- Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff
- Interpret and explain City policies and procedures relative to assigned area
- Prepare clear and concise reports
- Work independently in the absence of supervision
- Operate and use modern office equipment including a computer
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Use modern computers, software, printers, and plotters to produce documents, materials, reports, etc
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
