What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sexual Violence Program Advocate position at Family Crisis Center, Inc?
Purpose: To assist survivors of sexual violence, their families and friends through supportive services and advocacy while encouraging social change through awareness, education, and prevention
RESPONSIBILITIES INLCUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
1. Responsible for providing advocacy services to program participants including but not limited to individualized safety planning, assessment of safety needs including protection orders and shelter assessments for adults and their children, supportive services, referrals, parent and life skills information, emergency assistance, etc.
2. Provide educational materials, professional trainings and presentations to all communities. This does not apply to positions funded through grants prohibiting education and training activities.
3. Responsible for creating a culture of empowerment and trauma-informed service delivery.
4. Responsible for answering the crisis hotline and completing required documentation.
5. Primarily responsible to develop and respond to PREA protocols with partners.
6. Responsible for creating a positive cultural environment of effective communication and teamwork throughout the agency where employees and volunteers find support, guidance, and successful opportunities to contribute.
7. Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of resources and services available in the communities served to assist survivors.
8. Responsible for providing appropriate information regarding crime victim’s compensation and victim rights to victims being served.
9. Responsible for networking with medical professionals, court officers, school personnel, law enforcement, clergy and other professionals to encourage referrals.
10. Responsible for publicizing available services, educate referral sources and increase service utilization within communities served.
11. Responsible for documenting all information regarding services as required by policy and procedure.
12. Responsible for attending and participating in assigned agency meetings.
13. Responsible for maintaining and building new partnerships within the counties we serve.
14. Primarily responsible for providing advocacy during Sexual Assault Nurse Exams (SANE).
15. Responsible for planning activities in the counties we serve for Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
16. Responsible for other duties as designated by the DSVC Program Director.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
· Higher education preferred. High school degree or GED equivalent required.
· Experience in domestic violence or sexual assault field, volunteer experience, or related experience is suggested.
· Clear understanding of confidentiality.
· Ability to work independently and as a team.
· Knowledge and understanding of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse issues and trends.
· Acknowledge personal trauma and the response to triggers that surround trauma.
· Knowledge of service area resources preferred.
· Knowledge of computer/internet programs to include Word, Excel, Outlook and Google Apps.
· Express commitment to the empowerment of women and children.
· Experience working with diverse people and groups.
· Experience maintaining personal/professional boundaries and managing stress constructively.
· Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to handle multiple priorities.
· Manage and resolve conflict.
· Excellent initiative, integrity and strong sense of professionalism.
· Possess valid Kansas driver’s license, clean driving record, access to reliable transportation, & proof of current liability insurance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

· Manual dexterity and able to use wrists, hands and/or fingers in repetitive motion.
· Prepare and/or inspect documents and communications on computer or on paper.

· Bending, lifting, and carrying up to 40 pounds (donations/commodities).
WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours per week, non-exempt
Varied work schedule to accommodate activities.
Alternating on-call. Holiday work may be required. No staff member shall be required to work two consecutive Holidays
Job Type: Full-time
