CHILDREN'S ADVOCATE - Shelter Position
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITES: the fundamental duties and tasks, which define the job.
- Planning and implementing activities for children’s program.
- Providing individual parenting consultations for residents/non-residents.
- Promoting healthy, non-violent parent-child interactions.
- Completing intakes, case recording of services, and exit interviews to children.
- Completing all reports and evaluations.
- Identifying additional services for shelter resident children based on their needs including education information and arrangements
- Providing client transportation.
- Networking with community agencies and serve as agency liaison as assigned.
- Providing crisis line coverage during assigned shift as needed.
COOPERATIVE DUTIES:
- Working collaboratively with all domestic violence and sexual assault staff.
- Assisting other departments through cross-training and provision of additional staff support as needed.
- Performing special projects as assigned by supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- 2 years or Associates in Education or Social Work or related major and/or 2 years of experience in social services, school setting, or daycare.
- Bilingual (Spanish and English) required.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of the cultural concepts of the ethnic and cultural groups in the area with sensitivity to the diversity.
- Able to respond in a supportive, proactive, and constructive manner in a crisis situation.
- Sensitive to needs of children and issues of family violence and sexual assault.
- Possess adequate personal health, social maturity, and emotional stability to fulfill job functions.
- Possess dependable transportation and liability insurance coverage.
- Able to maintain confidentiality and has the high ethical standards.
- Ability to walk, bend, stoop, twist at waist, reach, climb stairs, lift and carry at least 25 lbs
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14.00 per hour
