What are the responsibilities and job description for the Courthouse Child Care Teacher position at Family Enrichment Network, Inc.?
The Teacher leads the Courthouse Children’s Center team in assessing and responding to the individual needs of the children. Trains staff on best practices and regulations. This person oversees the center operations and provides daily support and assistance to center staff and volunteers.
Essential Duties:
- Supervises the center on a daily and ongoing basis. Trains staff on best practices and regulations.
- Coordinates the scheduling of center activities and other relevant activities with the Assistant.
- Models positive child-development practices.
- Maintains control of the center’s group situation.
- Develops clear, reasonable, consistent, and age-appropriate rules and expectations for children.
- Assists children to develop decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Respects and acknowledges children's feelings by communicating with them in a positive manner and providing a supportive social and emotional climate.
- Provides an environment of acceptance and enhances children's understanding of themselves as individuals.
- Uses guidance and redirection to help children deal with anger and challenging behaviors.
- Works with parents to strengthen the family's knowledge of child development which includes instruction regarding how children grow and learn, and information to meet their child's intellectual, physical, emotional, and social needs.
- Problem-solves solutions to situations that arise.
- Actively seeks information in early childhood education and integrates into planning efforts.
- Completes intake forms dependent on parent’s court schedule.
- Uses the Health/Nutrition/Education curriculums to integrate health, mental health, and nutrition activities into the daily program.Connects families to community resources and agencies as appropriate.
- Leads center staff in planning and implementing activities which address curriculum goals.
- Maintains a balance between teacher-directed and child-initiated activities in the center setting.
- Responsible for the health and safety of children. Ensures that all accident reports are filed.
- Creates and maintains a center environment that meets the developmental needs of children and encourages their independence.
- Responsible for the care and inventory of satellite center equipment. Requisitions new equipment and supplies through immediate supervisor.
- Assumes all record keeping tasks. Reviews information from the center team to ensure accurate, confidential, and prompt documentation of children's behavior.
- Responsible for completing and submitting monthly reports.
- Participates in advisory committee meetings and other meetings, as needed with Court employees.
- Attends NYS Unified Court System trainings or conferences as required.
- Supports the literacy program for children by actively working on the literacy packets.
