TITLE: Controller

DEPARTMENT: Accounting

REPORTS TO: CFO/COO

FLSA: Full Time-Exempt

Position Summary – The Controller is responsible for accounting activities relating to the maintenance of complete and accurate general ledger, managerial reports and financial statements. The Controller is responsible for providing timely and accurate financial reports, forecasts and analysis for company executives. Ensures compliance with internal and external reporting requirements for the company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Multi-company accounting, including inter-company transactions.
  • Prepare, analyze and present monthly, quarterly and annual financials.
  • Manage accounting team including clerks, staff accountants and senior accountants.
  • Monitors and reviews all records of assets, liabilities and other financial transactions.
  • Ensure timely tax payments and compliance with local, state and federal reporting requirements including multi-state requirements.
  • Review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations for monthly financial statement close.
  • Responsible for all basic accounting procedures(A/R, A/P, billing, G/L, Tax Forms and inventory control); financial statement preparation, month end closing; journal entries and general ledger maintenance, inventory roll forwards, fixed assets and margin analysis; prepare supporting schedules for financial statements preparation.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities, making recommendations and implementing solutions within accounting department.
  • Perform analysis of operations on a monthly basis.
  • Work closely with managers on relevant issues providing proactive, responsive and consultative information to help them effectively manage and perform.
  • Manage annual financial statement audit and relationship with external auditors.
  • Manage, train, coach, and develop assigned subordinate team members to help them be effective and achieve desired outcomes in accounting and other departments as appropriate.
  • Manage personal workload, and that of the accounting department, to complete projects and meet deadlines.
  • Perform other accounting, financial or administrative tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • BA/BS Accounting or Finance. CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience - including as a controller.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures and legislation.
  • Ability to respond with a sense of urgency, practicality and accountability.
  • Strong leadership and proven supervisory skills.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer aptitude, which includes expertise the Microsoft Excel and work as well as experience with accounting software is required. Experience with Business Central is helpful.
  • Highly organized and strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
