Job Description: Gap Year Medical Assistant - Urgent Care
Family First Urgent Care is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Gap Year Student to join our team as a Medical Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for a pre-medical or pre-health student to gain valuable hands-on experience in a fast-paced urgent care setting. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff, providing essential support and learning fundamental clinical skills.
Responsibilities:
- Patient Care:
- Rooming patients, obtaining vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration), and documenting patient history.
- Assisting with patient intake and discharge.
- Preparing patients for examinations and procedures.
- Providing compassionate and empathetic care to patients of all ages.
- Assisting with basic wound care, splinting, and other procedures as directed by medical staff.
- Clinical Support:
- Preparing and administering injections (e.g., vaccinations) under the supervision of a physician or nurse.
- Performing basic laboratory tests (e.g., rapid strep, urinalysis).
- Maintaining and sterilizing medical equipment and supplies.
- Managing inventory and ordering supplies.
- Assisting with EKGs.
- Learning and Development:
- Actively participating in training and educational opportunities.
- Shadowing physicians and other medical staff to observe clinical procedures.
- Demonstrating a willingness to learn and adapt to new situations.
- Maintaining a positive attitude and professional demeanor.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from college, with plans to pursue a career in medicine or a related healthcare field.
- Strong interest in gaining hands-on experience in a clinical setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) is a plus.
- CPR/BLS certification is a plus.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and lift up to 25 pounds.
