We have an opening for a Packaging Engineer to join our team. Packaging Engineers play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of our product packaging from conception to production. They collaborate across departments to develop and optimize packaging solutions that meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness, ultimately enhancing our products' marketability and consumer satisfaction.

Freshpack is a custom cheese packaging company that develops and innovates cheese products and packaging. Our products can be found in all 50 states and in most major retailers. Over the past 25 years, our team has grown from 15 to 260 employees. It is an exciting time to join our team, as we are poised for substantial growth over the next 3-5 years.

Duties / Responsibilities :

Product Development and Testing :

Directly participate in the production of novel products
Manage the process and participate in the production of samples for internal and external approval
Spearhead the development and production of product and packaging samples, from initial ideation to final product.
Conduct comprehensive shelf-life trials and production trials to assess product and packaging performance under various conditions.
Document process and product information and feedback, maintaining organized records for reference and analysis.

New Item Set-Up and Launch :

Serve as the primary liaison between departments during new item set-up and production launches.

Coordinate interdisciplinary activities involving Operations, Sales, Food Safety & Product Quality, Accounting, Maintenance, and Shipping / Receiving.

Implement a structured process for trial runs and production launches, ensuring clear communication and alignment of objectives.

Monitor product safety and quality during active project phases, implementing necessary measures to maintain standards.

New Production Line Set-Up :

Collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to assist in the design and decision-making processes, for equipment selection and modification for new packaging lines.

Assist in the optimization of production line layouts to enhance efficiency and streamline operations.

Requirements : Skills / Abilities :

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Packaging Engineering, Food Science, or a related discipline or equivalent experience such as a food science, food packaging, or packaging materials and processes

Understanding of food science principles and a comprehension of packaging materials and processes

A demonstrated passion for process and product development, coupled with strong problem-solving skills that reflect a drive for continuous improvement and excellence.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across departments to achieve common goals.
