DESCRIPTION

To provide crisis intervention, crisis stabilization, brief intervention, linkage to community resources, and screening services in homes, school based and community settings to individuals and groups experiencing behavioral health problems and to manage requests for professional services.
The School Based CISC will be responsible to respond to calls from schools and other child/family serving agencies. Work hours may need to be flexible to accommodate school needs. The School Based CISC will be responsible to assess for suicidal/homicidal ideation, provide brief intervention, crisis intervention, and stabilization. Partnering with children/youth, families, and school staff to resolve crises and divert from hospitalization will be a primary responsibility. Referral to necessary community resources, with follow up to ensure completion of referral, will be necessary. The School Based CISC will also need to partner successfully with School Resource Officers, teachers, families, and other community stakeholders. Knowledge of mental health and substance use disorders, along with the ability to diagnose these conditions, and provide brief intervention for such is a requirement.
The School Based CISC will ordinarily work a traditional work schedule of 40 hours per week. The position will also assist with on call coverage as needed for the agency for traditional ACI role.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Work may include but is not limited to the following examples:
  • To provide crisis intervention, crisis stabilization, and referral/linking to community resources during scheduled business hours in coordination with families and assigned School District.
  • To provide back up after hours crisis intervention service in coordination with other team members as needed.
  • Provide intake assessment and preliminary diagnosis as needed.
  • To triage telephone and walk-in clients to determine level of need, immediacy of response and most appropriate service(s).
  • To communicate triage outcomes in writing or verbally to those needing to know.
  • To complete clinical screening forms including assessment for suicidality; Develop safety plans promoting the most independent level of care. .
  • Provide brief intervention and ongoing therapeutic services of a clinical and/or case management nature to children and families;
  • Link children and families to existing behavioral health resources in the geographic area; ensure a warm hand off and follow up with first appointment.
  • Must be able to use the agency electronic medical record program for all documentation. Is required to use collaborative documentation.
  • To coordinate service delivery with Family Guidance Center Departments, clients and referral sources and other agencies as appropriate
  • To provide individual and group therapy, mental health assessments and substance use disorder services as assigned and allowed according to licensure requirements.
  • To assist with quality assurance activities as assigned.
  • To accept other assignments as this position requires.
  • Become a Notary Public.
EXAMPLES OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of behavioral sciences and allied disciplines involved in the evaluation, care and rehabilitation of persons suffering from mental illness or emotional disturbance.
Knowledge of case management methods, principles and techniques.
Some knowledge of community resources used in the provision of services.
Skill in resolving conflicts and negotiating with others.
Ability to collect and analyze information in making decisions concerning a consumer’s treatment.
Ability to act decisively when necessary to protect consumers; to make judgments about crisis and carry out appropriate course of action.
Ability to assist, and exercise tact, patience, and understanding of others.
Ability to work harmoniously with employees, consumers, consumer families, guardians, public agencies, and the general public.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and through legible and clear writing.
Ability to be proficient in typing.
Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
Ability to recognize potential ethical problems and address in ethical manner.
Ability to plan and organize working time effectively.
Ability to perform with autonomy or with minimum direction.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
The following education and experience qualifications are the minimum requirement used to admit or reject applicants for consideration.
  • Master of social work, psychology, counseling or closely related filed and in pursuit of Missouri license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATION
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license and is, and remains insurable, under Family Guidance Center liability insurance.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention/de-escalation techniques, assessment of suicidality and diversion planning utilizing available resources.
  • Must be available to work as part of an agency rotating schedule to provide crisis coverage for the Crisis Stabilization Unit and the Access Crisis Intervention Team. This will include providing coverage on evenings and weekends as part of a rotating schedule.
GOALS
  • Will meet timeliness of service entry goals 90% of the time.
  • Documentation will meet agency standards 95% of the time.
