About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team in the Inpatient Substance Abuse unit. As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care to individuals struggling with substance abuse. You will work closely with a team of healthcare professionals to develop and implement treatment plans, monitor patient progress, and administer medications as needed. Your dedication to patient care and your ability to work collaboratively with others will be essential to the success of this role.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Texas
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical setting
- Experience working with patients with substance abuse disorders
- Ability to work night shifts
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing
- Certification in Substance Abuse Nursing
- Experience working in an inpatient setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Licenses and Certifications:
RN License
Basic Life Support (BLS), BLS in 30 days of hire or transfer
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), within 30 days of hire or transfer
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), within 30 days of hire or transfer
Responsibilities:
- Assess and monitor patients for signs of substance abuse and withdrawal
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Administer medications and monitor patients for adverse reactions
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care
- Educate patients and their families on substance abuse and treatment options
Skills:
As a Registered Nurse in the Inpatient Substance Abuse unit, you will utilize your clinical expertise and critical thinking skills to provide exceptional patient care. You will need to be able to work collaboratively with a team of healthcare professionals, communicate effectively with patients and their families, and be able to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Your ability to assess and monitor patients, develop and implement treatment plans, and administer medications will be essential to the success of this role. Additionally, your knowledge of substance abuse and treatment options will be critical in educating patients and their families on their path to recovery.
Duties
- Provides direct patient care to individuals struggling with substance abuse and addiction.
- Assist physicians in developing treatment plans, perform patient assessments, monitor a patient's progress, and administer medications and pain management services.
- Provides mental health and emotional support services.
- Conducts mental health screenings and provides emotional support for patients and their families during treatment.
- Educates patients and their loved ones about the dangers of substance abuse and provides resources and information about the various treatment options for addiction.
- Recognizing symptoms and identifying the type of substance abuse
- Managing symptoms such as DTs, seizures, rapid heart rates, etc.
- Utilizing standards for assessing withdrawal symptoms, such as the CIWA protocol
- Administering medications to assist in managing withdrawal symptoms, such as Phenobarbital, Ketamine, Clonidine, Thiamine, and other meds as prescribed.
- Monitor for behavioral changes.
- Assess and manage the use of restraints when appropriate.
- Adheres to current company policies on best treatment modalities and maintains up-to-date knowledge of progressive pharmacological and non-pharmacological drug and alcohol recovery interventions.
