Housekeeper and Engineering

Job Summary

Family House serves as a home away from home for families of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses by providing physical comfort and emotional support, free from financial concerns. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Housekeeper to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and order in our facilities, ensuring a welcoming environment for guests and staff. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing exceptional service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

(Please note that management reserves the right to change, modify, and/or alter any of the duties listed below to meet business demands).

• Check housekeeping cart for supplies, stock as needed.
• Greet guests immediately with friendly/sincere acknowledgement.
• Strip dirty linens / towels and remove from room/suite.
• Clean rooms/ suites, as assigned, which includes: making beds, cleaning bathrooms, dusting, vacuuming, and washing windows. Reports rooms as clean and available.
• Replenish linen and guest amenities.
• Vacuum corridors and hallways.
• Clean public spaces--including kitchen and living spaces.
• Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Director of Facilities.
• Maintain key control and daily security procedures.
• Identify maintenance issues and communicate with the Maintenance Supervisor and Director of Facilities to make or schedule repairs.
• Adhere to, and support all safety measures to ensure a safe environment for the team and families.
• Flexibility to work on all 7 days of the week including holidays, various shifts during all times of the day, evening, and night hours.
• Must be committed to Family House mission statement and agree to be an ambassador of Family House.
• Assist co-workers, as requested.
• Perform basic maintenance tasks in absence of engineering team members (i.e.: unclog toilets, change light bulbs etc.)
• Perform daily walks of the building and grounds.
• Record readings
• Preventative maintenance
• Work orders
• Repairs and troubleshooting

Skills Required

• Arrive to work on time when scheduled. In full uniform and ready to work at the start of your shift.
• Physically able to move large objects such as: carts, large bags of linen, ironing board.
• Physically able to operate cleaning equipment such as: vacuum cleaners, brooms, spray bottles, floor machine, pressure washer, hand and power tools.
• Ability to read and recognize room/suite numbers.
• Ability to communicate effectively with guests and Associates verbally or in written form.
• Ability to learn, follow and enforce standards for cleanliness as they apply to all aspects of Family House.
• Ability to follow all safety procedures/standards and able to recognize and act in emergency situations.
• Must be capable of successfully prioritizing, organizing and multi-tasking.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Work effectively under pressure.
• Recognize when decisions or information should be referred to a higher authority.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities, work environments, and management styles.

• Follow Lockout tag out procedures and maintaining MSDS records.

Language Skills

Ability to read, write and verbally communicate effectively and professionally with the staff, board, families, and vendors. Ability to diplomatically deal with difficult situations and people, (including but not limited to patients, families, parents, board members, staff, neighbors, volunteers and funders) while exhibiting a consistent level of care and professionalism. Ability to also speak and comprehend Spanish is preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, or telephone, reach above and below shoulder level. Frequent sitting and working on computers. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Ability to work weekends, evenings, mid shifts, and morning shifts, as there is no set schedule.
