What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at Family Medical Associates and Pediatrics?
Clinical Duties (may include, but not limited to):
- Taking medical histories
- Explaining treatment procedures to patients
- Preparing patients for examinations
- Assisting the physician during examinations
- Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
- Performing basic laboratory tests (Strep/COVID/Flu)
- Instructing patients about medication and special diets
- Preparing and administering medications, including by intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections—including vaccinations/immunizations, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider (e.g., a nurse practitioner or physician assistant)
- Transmitting prescription refills as directed
- Taking electrocardiograms
- Wound care and changing dressings
- Assist healthcare providers in documenting patient encounters by accurately and efficiently transcribing medical information into electronic medical records (EMRs)
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and complete documentation of patient visits
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines when handling sensitive patient information
- Review and edit transcriptions for accuracy and completeness, making necessary corrections as needed
- Organize and manage medical records, ensuring they are up-to-date and easily accessible for healthcare providers

- Certification as a medical assistant (CCMA or CMA) highly preferred
- Familiarity with family practice, pediatrics, or medical fields is a plus
- Proficient in typing and using computer systems, including EMR software
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to accurately transcribe medical information
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and prioritize tasks effectively
