Direct Care Professional - $17.25 per hour
$18.25 per hour plus 16 hours of PTO once med certification is complete
Full-time 30 hrs/week
Sunday 2:00pm-10:00pm
Monday 3:00pm-11:00pm
Tuesday 3:00pm-10:00pm
Wednesday 3:00pm-10:00pm
Job Summary:
The Direct Care Professional will provide habilitative assistance and care to clients in various Agency programs, such as community and supported living arrangements, family support services program, and day/vocational program. They will be responsible for the direct daily care, teaching, and supervision of clients, as well as maintaining accurate records.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of two years experience working with individuals with developmental and/or behavior challenges preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and know the status and location of clients at all times
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of each client's Individualized Plan of Service or Individual Educational Plan
- Teach, supervise, and assist clients in performing daily living activities
- Monitor client progress on goals
- Protect client rights and report incidents of abuse, neglect, and mistreatment
- Complete incident reports and medication error reports
- Implement behavioral plans as written, including approved or emergency restraints and procedures
- Implement recommendations and programs from occupational, physical, and speech therapists
- Develop and implement recreation and community participation activities
- Work cooperatively with clinical directors, consultants, families, schools, and other agencies
- Maintain accurate and timely recordkeeping of services provided and client goals
- Attend required staff meetings, in-services, and trainings
- Administer medications and provide routine health care and first aid to clients
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of program sites and vehicles
- Transport clients to and from designated activities and programs
- Conduct and participate in emergency drills as required
- Maintain medication certification
- Ensure accurate record keeping of petty cash and client cash on hand accounts
- Perform any other related duties as requested
Competencies:
- Successful completion of Medication Certification Program
- Successful completion of PMT, CPR, and First Aid training program
- Valid CT driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
Work Environment:
The work environment is usually moderate in noise level. The employee will travel by automobile and may be exposed to changing weather conditions.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and may exert over 100 pounds of force when initiating physical restraint procedures. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Language and Mathematical Skills:
Ability to read and interpret English documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding and to deal with problems involving several concrete variables.
