Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable individual to join our team as an Overnight Shelter member. This role is responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being, and comfort of shelter guests during overnight hours. You will provide support, monitor activities, and maintain a safe and welcoming environment for individuals in need. A designated 8-hour on-call sleep period is provided to ensure you are rested and able to respond if needed on a daily basis for 7 days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the safety and well-being of shelter guests during overnight hours.
- Conduct regular monitoring of premises to ensure the security of the facility.
- Provide assistance to guests including answering questions or addressing concerns.
- Enforce shelter rules and ensure a calm and respectful atmosphere.
- Respond to emergencies or urgent situations when needed, providing support or contacting supervisors and appropriate authorities when necessary.
- Keep accurate records of incidents, concerns, or events during the shift.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of common areas. Notify supervisors of guest area cleanliness issues, maintenance needs, and any repairs.
- Supervise and assist with meal distribution as required.
- Meet with case manager daily and management as needed.
- Ensure a peaceful environment for guests to rest during the designated sleep period.
- Attend required staff meetings, training, and shelter events.
- Other duties as assigned by the shelter case manager or management.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associates degree in Human Service field is a plus.
- Previous experience in a shelter, social services, or customer service environment is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle challenging or emergency situations calmly and effectively.
- Ability to work independently during overnight hours.
- Must be able to perform light physical duties (e.g., lifting, standing for extended periods).
- Participate and complete all required training including Sexual Harassment Prevention, HIPAA, and Trauma Informed Care.
- Flexibility to manage work responsibilities and sleep time as needed.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
- Must be willing and able to work in a diverse environment.
Preferred Skills:
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations.
Compensation:
· Private semi-furnished Studio Apartment with some utilities included.
· Stipend is provided monthly.
· This is a contract position and a 1099 statement will be provided to you annually
