Family Promise of Lawrence is hiring for a Volunteer Coordinator.
Family Promise of Lawrence (FPL) is a growing organization that serves families in a housing crisis, utilizing trauma-informed, client-centered best practices. We are seeking a Volunteer Coordinator who is passionate about using their organizational and interpersonal skills to be a part of our team in accomplishing the mission of FPL:

Job Responsibilities: Specific duties will be varied and will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Empowering Families
- Build trusting relationships with all family members, staff and volunteers at FPL
- Have knowledge and understanding of FPL programs in order to answer questions accurately
- Participate in all required training in order to engage with clients in an empowering manner
Achieving Stabilization
- Provide tours of Mt. Hope Shelter to volunteers and orient them with use of the building for their volunteering tasks
- Meet evening Hospitality volunteers to assist with set-up and orientation as needed to empower volunteers in a successful hosting experience
Community Connections
- Implement a volunteer support plan that meets the best practices around volunteer recruitment, retention and recognition
- Recruit and train volunteers for all volunteering opportunities
- Maintain hospitality schedule for Shelter
- Prepare and send Shelter Roster email each week to upcoming Hospitality volunteer groups
- Communicate with Hospitality Coordinators to ensure all volunteers have required training, background checks, documentation and information before their volunteer shifts
- Communicate with community partners and neighbors regarding upcoming FPL events, volunteer opportunities, etc.
- Participate in Volunteer Summit meetings and the Volunteer Care Committee meetings
- Coordinate volunteer work teams for various FPL work projects
- Help coordinate volunteer recognition opportunities and events
- Be able to adapt processes and streamline volunteer engagement efforts to meet FLP and community needs
- Serve as liaison between FPL and community groups that are looking for civic engagement and team building opportunities such as student volunteer groups, faith-based groups, civic clubs, and local business
- Conduct community outreach to identify and establish long term volunteers who can provide stable support for all FPL initiatives and activities
- Manage volunteer database
Qualifications/Education/Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively, plan, organize and prioritize work in a flexible work environment, and be self-motivated and directed
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google platforms
- Engage sensitively and respectfully with the individuals and families experiencing homelessness, particularly within the context of a crisis situation
- Handle detailed information with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people from different cultures, situations and faiths
- Must have valid driver’s license
- Past experience leading or managing volunteers
*The specified schedule for this position is Tuesday - Saturday, with some evening hours.*
