Position Overview:
The Prevention Specialist provides direct support to families throughout Allegheny County through home visits, parenting education, developmental screenings, and connections to community resources. This position utilizes the evidence-based Nurturing Parenting Curriculum and serves families with children from birth through 18 years of age. The ideal candidate is experienced, flexible, and passionate about supporting family well-being and early intervention.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide home-based services to expecting parents and families with children (0–18 years old)
- Facilitate 15-week parenting education groups, including a virtual group on Tuesdays from 3–5 PM
- Utilize the Nurturing Parenting Curriculum for both home visits and group facilitation
- Conduct developmental screenings and refer families to Early Intervention services as needed
- Maintain a full caseload and actively recruit new clients, especially from referral sources like CYF and the courts
- Respond to new referrals within 24–48 hours and schedule services within one week
- Make appropriate community referrals to support client needs
- Support families experiencing crises with timely, compassionate responses
- Meet productivity expectations of 29 hours weekly, including service delivery, travel, and documentation
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all client interactions and activities
- Communicate effectively with supervisors about caseload concerns, barriers, and timelines
- Provide transportation to families on occasion (agency car seats available)
- Be available for at least two home visits per day and flexible hours, including evenings or Saturdays as needed
- Serve all areas of Allegheny County
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or related field
- Understanding of Nurturing Parenting Program values and constructs
- Ability to co-facilitate parenting groups and deliver lessons in-home
- Proficiency using the Ages and Stages Developmental Assessment and making appropriate referrals
- Demonstrated ability to successfully recruit and maintain a caseload of 18 families
- Reliable transportation and a valid PA Driver’s License
