SCHEDULE
Fifteen (15) hours weekly to be determined.
SUMMARY
Family Service League is seeking a part-time Counselor for the Middle County Public Library Family Places Library Program. The Family Place Library provides library patrons with social and emotional support, case management, crisis intervention, short-term counseling and referrals to mental health clinics and other community-based programs. The Counselor will work out of the Selden and Centereach library branches. This position is 15 hours per week, days and times of your choice.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Counselor will conduct intakes and assessments of individuals and families.
- Provide individual and family counseling.
- Assist in linking eligible clients with public benefits and assist clients with applying.
- The Counselor will provide linkages to more intensive mental health services.
- Provide referrals to higher levels of care.
- The Counselor will provide crisis intervention when needed.
- Document client contacts accurately and timely.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy required.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical experience required.
At least 1 year of prior experience working with individuals with mental illnesses and their families required.
Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and referral processing required.
Must be able to perform suicide risk assessments and provide short term counseling.
Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office required.
Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills required.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires sitting for long periods of time.
