We are seeking a per-diem Homeless Shelter Advocate to join our team at one of our locations in New York.
About the Role
The Homeless Shelter Advocate will work with clients experiencing homelessness, providing support and assistance with daily tasks, crisis intervention, and advocacy. This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct client intakes and assessments
- Provide crisis intervention and support
- Assist with daily tasks, such as pantry distribution and transportation
- Monitor safety and security throughout the shelter
- Collaborate with security personnel to address incidents
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1 year experience in Human Services or related field preferred
- Knowledge of homeless population and DSS policies
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
- Valid NYS Driver's License required
