**Job Description:**
Fulfill a vital role as an Advocate at Family Service League Inc.
Our homeless shelter in Smithtown, NY is seeking a per-diem Advocate to ensure the safety of families and their children, interact, and provide support to families and children, enforce shelter rules, complete intake consent forms, conduct curfew checks, provide transportation, and turn over units for new clients as clients are periodically discharged from the shelter.
**Responsibilities:**
- New client intakes and explaining shelter rules and regulations to clients.
- Conducting curfew checks, which includes walking outdoors to each unit.
- Conducting Safety Checks.
- Monitoring the safety of the property.
- Addressing any issues of safety in the unit, removing any dangerous items.
- Assisting with pantry distribution and assisting with distribution of donations.
- Providing transportation.
- Providing crisis intervention.
- Overseeing compliance of rules, regulations, and policies of the shelter.
- Setting and observing appropriate boundaries with clients; observing client confidentiality and HIPPA protocols.
- Advocating for client needs.
- Attending staff meetings, individual supervision, and training as required.
- Collaborating with security to discuss and resolve client incidents.
- Responsible for reading and understanding the Policy and Procedure Manual.
- All other duties as assigned.
