What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Victim Advocate Case Manager position at Family Services, Inc.?
Summary:
Provides compassionate services that strengthen the wellbeing and safety of victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child maltreatment. Directs information, advocacy, and supportive services that allow individuals and families to make informed decisions. Provides strengths-based, survivor-driven case management and service coordination to assist survivors in addressing barriers to obtaining and maintaining stable housing. This is a full-time temporary position, with benefits.
Major responsibilities:
- Case management services include but are not limited to: outreach/engagement, case management assessment and service planning, housing location and retention and connection to community service providers for financial and employment supports, substance abuse and mental health care and other supportive services.
- Advocates for survivor-driven services and resources in partnership with the client.
- Creates and monitors housing plans with client engagement.
- Provides crisis intervention services including safety planning to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child maltreatment by advocating on their behalf with the criminal justice system, by assisting victims through networking with appropriate community resources, and by providing follow-up services to program referrals.
- Conducts intake appointments with new guests at the Family Services Domestic Violence shelter to determine fit for shelter services and/or Rapid Rehousing services. Establishes a client-centered plan.
- Uses evidence-based practices in service delivery such as intensive case management, Empowerment model, Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Care, and Housing First practices.
- When Applicable, establishes new relationships and strengthens existing relationships with landlords to increase the pool willing to rent to survivors.
- Assures quality services by being knowledgeable of and enforcing rules, regulations and legal requirements. Maintains detailed records necessary for programming and accountability.
- Participates in Family Services staff meetings and in community Continuum of Care and/ or Rapid Rehousing meetings.
- Assists with back-up coverage for the agency’s crisis lines as needed and performs other duties as incumbent upon the position and as assigned.
- Plays an active role in raising the visibility of Family Services, Inc. programs, connecting the programs to the larger community, and using those linkages to increase the level of community resources (financial, volunteer, tangible, and in-kind) which benefit Family Services, Inc. programs.
- Assist in providing training to community organizations as well as new staff and volunteers.
- Coordinates with supervisor to ensure day staff coverage at the Family Services Domestic Violence shelter.
- Develops and maintains harmonious working relationships with Family Services staff as well as with internal and external community partners.
- Performs other duties incumbent upon the position and as assigned.
Position qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in social work or related human service field. Minimum of two years of case management experience working with at-risk populations.
- Knowledge of dynamics of families in crisis, ability to de-escalate situations of conflict, and acceptance of regional psychosocial, cultural, religious and economic differences.
- Knowledge of victimization issues and the legal system.
- Broad knowledge of community resources and experience working with community organizations.
- Maintains dignity and self-control in stressful situations and objectivity about personal strengths and limitations.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Maintains physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following: walking, bending, stretching, lifting, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating assigned equipment.
- Ability to work flexible/overtime hours, as needed.
- Requires valid NC driver’s license and ability to travel between various agency sites and community resources.
