What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Service Professional (DSP) position at Family Transitions Inc?
Family Transitions, Inc. is looking for a qualified, and compassionate DSP (Direct Support Professional) to fill positions specifically for the Petersburg area. Day Time Hours: 8:30AM until 3:30PM Monday through Friday.
DUTIES AND RESPONBILITIES:
- Assists or inspects individuals on ADL's (Activities of Daily Living).
- Provides care to individuals as defined in their ISP (Individual Service Plan).
- Administers medication as necessary.
- Monitor special conditions, i.e. seizures, diabetes, special diets, physical disabilities, and dual diagnosis.
- Transports individuals to all activities as specified by supervisor.
- Completes all required individual related clinical documentation including progress notes, incident reports, and data tracking according to Family Transitions, Inc. Health, Safety and Emergency guidelines.
- Recommends revisions be made on treatment goals to better serve the individual's specific needs.
- Intervenes and responds to a crisis following Family Transitions, Inc.'s policies and procedures.
- Performs/assists in household maintenance to sustain a safe and positive environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of the special needs of individuals with developmental disabilities, intellectual disorders, and mental illnesses.
- Ability to analyze needs of verbal and non-verbal individuals.
- Working knowledge of human service system, roles of human services personnel, and relevant community resources.
- Skilled in detailed, precise, and grammatically correct documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year experience working with adults who have developmental/ intellectual disabilities.
- Valid Driver's License is required.
- Must have a positive driving record and proof of automobile insurance.
- Must pass a Criminal Background Investigation.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Applicants will be subject to a check of the Department of Social Services (DSS) Central Registry of child abuse and neglect complaints.
- Applicants will be required to file a disclosure statement indicating whether they have been convicted of, or have pending criminal charges against them.
- Applicants will need to complete a TB screening test upon employment and annually thereafter.
- Applicants must possess current certification in behavioral management, CPR, and First Aid.
- Lastly, three references who can attest to your knowledge, skills, and abilities.
