Description

Program Purpose: GOALS is a 24/7 shelter for families experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. GOALS serves families with school-aged children and younger, collaborating with community partners to provide resources and support families in creating obtainable goals in mental health, school, employment, and finding safe and stable housing. GOALS utilizes a Two-Gen model that addresses the needs of both children and their caregivers.   

Position Purpose: GOALS has Family Navigators that support households on campus through intensive case management. Navigators work collaboratively as a team to provide resources and support families in creating obtainable goals within mental health, education, employment, and securing safe and stable housing. At the GOALS campus, our Family Navigators provide comprehensive support to households on campus through intensive case management. They work collaboratively to ensure families have the resources to create and meet obtainable goals. Family Tree has two shelter buildings on the GOALS campus: Shenandoah and Evergreen. This position is to provide case management and 24/7 shelter coverage through the Family Navigator position.  

Qualifications


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:  

  • Family Navigators support families by working collaboratively with households to set goals to find safe and stable housing, employment, and family stability. Through this process, Family Navigators are skilled in trauma-informed care to assist households achieve their set goals.  

  • Family Navigators provide and document weekly case management details in multiple platforms including HMIS, Salesforce and internal data tracking systems.  

  • Family Navigators are responsible for maintaining and staying current in all training’s required by Family Tree.  

  • Develop, monitor, and revise transition plan monthly with program participants.  

  • Family Navigators participate in timely preparing and turning over rooms to prepare for incoming households.  

  • Family Navigators will actively and regularly participate in monthly Family Voice meetings to relay important updates to residents in the household, foster shelter community, and engage in feedback from shelter residents. 

  • Family Navigators work collaboratively with fellow team members and community partners.  

  • Family Navigators ensure a safe work environment and follow all residential program policies and procedures.  

  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings by offering input to other cases, including case coordination and case plan implementation.  

  • Ability to coordinate with other navigators, including other shelters and other Family Tree staff, in a cooperative manner that allows timely completion of work and ensures a smooth flow of work in programs/departments within the agency and the community. 

  • Family Navigators are expected to work with Family Tree Residential Services and other internal programs. 

  • Family Navigators will foster good communication and collaboration with Family Tree’s Finance, Data, and Grants and Community Support teams. 

  • Other Duties:   

  • Adhere to Family Tree's Continuous Improvement Practice, which involves completing client feedback and post-exit surveys according to Family Tree's standards. This practice is crucial for evaluating and enhancing our services.  

  • Support volunteers, interns, and other staff while at Goals.   

  • At Family Tree, we value collaboration and teamwork. As a Family Navigator, you will work closely with team members, Family Tree Leadership, and partnering agencies to support Family Tree’s GOALS program objectives and outcomes. Family Tree encourages open communication and constructive feedback, fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment.  

  • Adhere to Family Tree Shelter Program policies and procedures.

This position does not have any supervisory roles.

  • Professionalism and Work Ethic- Demonstrate ability to manage time adequately and be accountable. Demonstrate abilities to focus on client's needs, applying trauma-informed practices, cultural competency, and inclusiveness  

  • Initiative- Able to work in a self-directed manner while also communicating well within a team; able to perform tasks with strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and excellent organizational skills  

  

Preferred Skills/Competencies:  

  • Relationship Management - possess the skills to build healthy and effective working relationships with Family Tree team members. Skills gained from lived experience and professional experience working with vulnerable populations and marginalized communities 

  • Decision Making - skilled in gathering information, evaluating options, and presenting solutions or courses of action 

  • Organizational Competency - can prioritize and manage workload, manage their time, and demonstrate strong attention to detail 

  • Digital Literacy - the ability to find, evaluate, and communicate information by utilizing typing and digital media platforms like Microsoft Suite Programs and search engines 

  • Resourcefulness - knowledge of and ability to navigate Metro Denver area community resources; an understanding of voucher administration and Medicaid billing processes 

  

Working Environment:   

  • This is an in-office position  

  • Must have access to reliable transportation daily  

  • The shelter is staffed at times, operates 24/7, and 365 days a year. This position schedule includes afternoon, evening, and weekend hours. This is a full-time, 40-hour-a-week position. The schedule may vary according to the needs of the program.  

 

Physical Activities:   

  • Sitting/standing for long periods  

  • Talking, hearing (ordinary conversation)   

  • Seeing (reading the paperwork, computer screen work, etc.)   

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate computers and telephones
