The Development Director for Family Tree Relief Nursery is a seasoned professional who will lead a comprehensive development program while proactively managing a major gift donor/prospect portfolio. The director will foster significant philanthropic investments in the organization by providing strategic direction to the Executive Director and collaborating with development colleagues across the organization to promote opportunities to interested prospects and proactively managing a prospect portfolio. This individual must be a seasoned development leader with a proven history in community engagement. The director reports to the Executive Director and serves as a member of the organization’s leadership team.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with donors and prospective donors and guided by the direction and scope of each prospect's interest, proactively collaborate across the organization to leverage the maximum philanthropic potential of each donor.
  • Develop and submit written proposals, case statements, and other collateral materials needed to secure philanthropic investments in support of the annual resource development plan.
  • Hire, terminate, supervise, and develop the development team staff in support of Family Tree Relief Nursery's success through a strength-based approach focusing on a staff person’s strengths to leverage their positive job performance.
  • Keep up to date on current fundraising programs, practices, and procedures used in the nonprofit sector and inform the leadership of items that would benefit Family Tree Relief Nursery.
  • Lead a comprehensive development program that supports the organization’s fundraising priorities, including oversight of the organization’s annual giving, major and leadership giving, planned gifts, and donor stewardship programs in accordance with the annual giving plan for Family Tree growing each prospect and or a donor to their fullest potential that meets Family Tree’s annual resource development goals to stabilize and sustain the organization's strategic plan, mission, and vision.
  • Lead Advancement Committee in support of the annual fundraising plan; by scheduling, coordinating, and leading the committee’s monthly meetings.
  • Lead and collaborate in the board of directors strategic planning process for Family Tree Relief Nursery with a focus on fundraising and donor development that supports the growth and mission of Family Tree.
  • Lead and collaborate with the Executive Director, Deputy Director, and Board members in identifying, recruiting, and training new board members. Assign a lead and/or participate in onboarding and orientation activities as needed.
  • Lead and support development team staff in implementing In-Kind donation and friend-raising events yearly including the annual diaper drive and annual Holiday Giving event that brings additional resources to Family Tree to benefit the families we serve.
  • Lead in the cultivation and sustaining of community relationships by networking at community engagement events with various community organizations, business leaders, grant funders, faith communities, schools, and universities in partnership with the Executive Director and Director’s team.
  • Lead, collaborate with the Executive Director and Development team, and oversee the organization’s marketing plan in the organization, in implementation of marketing messages, communications, media alerts, and electronic and social media presence ensuring that both the external and internal messaging and voice are consistent with Family' values and organizational goals.
  • Oversee maintenance and utilization of Family Trees donor database to manage all phases of development including prospecting, donor development, gift tracking, stewardship, and reporting.
  • Oversee the coordination with other Family tree staff on the recruitment, training, and engagement of volunteers as needed for projects under position direction.
  • Oversee the development team in the planning and implementation of various events that bring new and continued donors in support of Family Trees programs including asking events, cornhole tournaments, and other events as created.
  • Prepare the Executive Director and others with appropriate prospect and donor information as needed to support the annual resource development plan
  • Promote events to the business community to support Family Tree Relief Nursery and provide support to those groups that want to sponsor and/or host an event.
  • Provide information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities to develop staff. Focus on the development of leadership skills to help the team grow and thrive.
  • Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for Family Tree Relief Nursery’s mission and programs in the community through speaking engagements, coordination of targeted community events, facility tours, and other outreach activities.

General Expectations:

  • Ability to collaborate well with people from all backgrounds with varying degrees of experience. (Both internally and externally) and work cooperatively towards Family Tree’s goals, mission, and vision using a cross-functional team approach to draw upon skills and knowledge throughout the organization, sharing resources, and information; actively building internal and external networks.
  • Attend and participate in supervision, program meetings, team meetings, All Staff Meetings, and Family Tree Relief Nursery training as required.
  • Comply with all health and safety standards per state regulations.
  • Comply with State guidelines regarding mandated reporting of suspected abuse and/or neglect.
  • Lead with confidence in public speaking and ability to express ideas verbally and in writing that shares the goals, mission, and vision of Family Tree.
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record, driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance while employed by Family Tree Relief Nursery
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, CF42, and Family Tree Relief Nursery’s policy and procedures.
  • Serve as a member of one Family Tree Relief Nursery Committee, performing duties of this committee as agreed during regular meetings.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, public relations, nonprofit or related field.
  • Two years or more of experience with sales, non-profit fundraising, individual donor development, and other relevant experience
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Fundraising CRM, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Nation Builder, DonorPerfect
  • Demonstrated success in meeting sales goals or securing donor gifts of $10,000 or more.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in social media and associated tools.
  • Graphic design and web design experience required.
  • Maintain enrollment in the State Central Background Registry.
  • Alignment with the philosophy, mission, and values of Family Tree Relief Nursery.
  • Respect for and demonstrated adherence to strict confidentiality guidelines.
  • Dependable, with strong time management skills.
  • Must have reliable transportation and maintain a valid driver’s license for the state of residency and have a driving record permitting coverage under the corporate liability policy.
  • Attend or provide proof of recent training for mandatory reporting to ensure basic knowledge of child maltreatment indicators for prevention of abuse.

Physical Demand:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, push, pull, reach, manipulate, carry, and key/type. Requires occasionally lifting to 25 lbs.

Mental and Visual Demand:

  • Intense and/or exacting mental and/or visual attention; the work involves visualizing, planning, laying out, or otherwise performing incredibly involved and complex work.

Working Conditions:

  • The job is typically performed under very comfortable working conditions; any disagreeable elements are absent during the normal performance of the job.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $64,480.00 - $68,640.00 per year
