Mortgage Loan Processor

Role:

The employee in this position will be responsible for various duties and tasks relating to processing mortgage files and preparing them for closing. This position will also be primary contact for members, employees, and other outside personnel regarding questions related to mortgage loans in process.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

• Primary point of contact for members with a first mortgage loan in process. Request all information required by underwriting and update members frequently on loans status. Answer all questions in a timely manner to ensure a smooth transaction for all parties.
• Order all services including but not limited to tax transcripts, appraisal, title work, flood certificate, mortgage insurance, verifications for employment and income, homeowners’ insurance information, etc.
• Update loan files with requested conditions
• Effectively communicate with attorney and member to coordinate closing date and sure closing dates are met
• Cross sell other credit union products and services based on member need
• Keeps informed of current trends in the mortgage lending and market factors affecting mortgage lending.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management
• Review title work from attorney’s office to ensure our lien is positioned correctly and there are no liens, judgement etc. that may interfere with the credit unions position. Also review legal description to ensure lien is placed on correct property.
• Maintain knowledge of and comply with all BSA related regulations and internal policies and procedures
• Be effectively cross-trained to assist other members of the mortgage production department with their assigned duties as needed

Performance Measurements:

1. To serve as a contact for members and realtors throughout the mortgage loan process.
2. Provide service excellence to members in accordance with the credit union's mission statement and core values and maintain a professional, courteous, and friendly atmosphere for members and co-workers.
3. To maintain a dependable record of attendance and timeliness.
4. To troubleshoot and resolve member and internal inquiries in a timely, friendly, and accurate manner.
5. To work with the Mortgage Manager to assist with the efficient and effective workflow and processes of the Mortgage Department.
6. To participate in continuing education and training events

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Six months to two years of similar or related experience with knowledge of mortgage lending processes and procedures and secondary market procedures is required. Previous experience in consumer lending is preferred but not required.

Education: A high school education is required, with additional education desired. Work related experience with proven performance may be considered in lieu of formal education

Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the credit union, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion.
