Roles:

The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for the proactive origination of residential mortgage loan transactions in accordance with the credit union’s policies and secondary mortgage market requirements. The position is also responsible for promoting the Credit Union in the communities we service and cross-selling other Credit Union products and services.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Meet sales and service goals.
  • Cross sell other credit union products and services based on member need.
  • Primary duty is to originate high quality residential loan transactions through self-sourcing, external networking (through contacts with builders, developers, realtors) and marketing activities.
  • Build, maintain and manage an active pipeline (both quality & quantity) to meet required production goals.
  • Regularly participate in activities designed to promote mortgage loan origination outside of the Credit Union’s facilities, included but not limited to attend closings, open houses, broker open houses to meet with realtors and gain referrals, realtor and builder presentations and/or seminars, training and other lead-generating activities.
  • Maintain full knowledge of all available loan products, processing procedures, underwriting guidelines, closing processes and general Credit Union and secondary market policies and procedures.
  • Conduct loan interviews through outreach to Members or Prospective Members at the locations that are most convenient for them. Ability to assess their loan requirements and then counsel them by explaining products details and recommending the most effective Credit Union program meeting those requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

**Position is compensated using a Base/Incentive compensation plan. Incentive structure is evaluated annually. 2025 structure begins at .65% and increases by tier. $8500 Max loan payout. No monthly or annual incentive cap.**


Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Two years to five years of similar or related experience with knowledge of mortgage lending processes and procedures and secondary market procedures is required. Loan Origination experience of secondary market guidelines is preferred. Previous experience in consumer lending is preferred but not required.

Education: A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school. Work-related experience with proven performance may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal Skills courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating, influencing or training others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.

Other Skills:

  • Knowledge of the secondary market and experience with first and second mortgage residential real estate lending.
  • Thorough knowledge of credit union lending policies including mortgage and consumer lending.
  • Must have analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills.
  • Proven member service skills, including the ability to cross sell other credit union products and services.
  • Must have excellent computer skills for basic applications and a thorough knowledge of the mortgage loan platform software, FICS, and Core system software.
  • Ability to lead and supervise others to include training, cross-training, motivating, and counseling employees.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and effective telephone skills.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

Work Environment: Travel will be required. After hours meetings along with irregular schedules may be necessary at times.

Experience

Required
  • 2 - 5 years: similar or related experience with knowledge of mortgage lending processes and procedures and secondary market procedures is required. Loan Origination experience of secondary market guidelines is preferred. Previous experience in consumer lending is preferred but not required.

Education

Required
  • Associates or better in Other or related field
