VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT: Establishes annual goal for recruiting, supervising and retaining program volunteers.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT & SUPERVISION: Supervises aquatic staff, program assistants, instructors, and lead staff. Responsible for hiring, scheduling, training, providing job development feedback, and mentoring a diverse staff.

Essential Functions
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: Assists Director with developing and managing the Aquatic Budget.
VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT: Establishes annual goal for recruiting, supervising and retaining program volunteers.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT & SUPERVISION: Supervises aquatic staff, program assistants, instructors, and lead staff. Responsible for hiring, scheduling, training, providing job development feedback, and mentoring a diverse staff.
- Maintains comprehensive records of the aquatic staff’s certifications and administers classes and re- certifications appropriately. Ensures that no staff is put on stand without current certification.
- Assists in development and conduction of staff training; including: in-services, certifications opportunities, and remedial instruction.
- Trains staff on areas of responsibilities and duties, through checklists and job shadowing, in the three key objective areas: safety, member engagement and cleaning.
- Serves as role model for all behaviors required from lifeguards. Is regularly observed in the aquatic area completing duties.
- Regularly observes and provides feedback to lifeguards, resulting in increased performance.
- Develops self and staff through meetings and performance objectives by following a growth plan, which you create with staff.
- Supervises and coaches staff by setting up formal and informal, individual and group meetings.
Requirements
Entry Requirements
- Two or more years of aquatic program related experience, prefer staff supervision and budget management experience. Current Lifeguard, WSI, Professional Rescuer CPR and First Aid certification, and O2 certification.
- Additional certifications/skills desired: Lifeguard instructor, CPR for Professional. Rescuer Instructor, Water Safety Instructor Trainer. Within 30 days of employment or first available training.
- Ability to effectively respond to safety and emergency situations. Ability to develop effective working relationships, and to effectively communicate and problem solve. Strong leadership skills, high degree of accuracy, skill with quantitative information and ability to make decisions based on logical reasoning. Ability to take initiative and respond to a variety of situations and manage several tasks and projects at the same time.
- Must be physically capable of lifting 40 pounds.
- Ability to work in an indoor pool environment.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations.
- Ability to stand or sit maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
- Position may require bending, leaning, and kneeling.
- Ability to lift swimmers of various body types, following lifeguard certification guidelines, when responding to emergencies.
- Ability to effectively use a computer for word processing, research, and budgeting.
- Ability to interact with a diversity of people and various levels of personnel.
- Ability to use sound judgment.
