Seasonal Garden Center Sales Associate Job Description
Reports to: Garden Center Manager
The primary objective of the Garden Center Sales Associate is to provide excellent customer service to all customers as well as support the management team with daily store operations including opening and closing the store with a focus in the outdoor garden center. The position is hourly, temporary (3 months) part-time (16-20 hours/week) and requires evenings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
Culture

Customer Service
- Provide excellent and consistent service to all customers through building relationships with them and solving their gardening needs.
- Utilize all materials provided to accentuate customer experience ie: sales, promotions, etc.
Operations
- Follow all store policies, procedures and safety protocols accurately and efficiently.
- Carefully water and care for plants according to established protocols to guard against loss of stock and ensure plants look their best
- Assist with processing incoming merchandise accurately and efficiently including pricing and merchandising.
- Conduct sales, refunds and other in-store and online transactions through the POS system, assist customers with carry-outs.
- Handle customer special orders efficiently and effectively.
- Proficient in all necessary POS procedures with ability to problem solve.
- Continually work to improve product and gardening knowledge.
- Effectively and efficiently complete all projects assigned.
- Assist with store cleaning, organization and other daily tasks and special projects as assigned.
- Provide occasional assistance in pet side of operation, but primary focus will be in outdoor garden center.
Marketing
- Maintain store presentation, cleanliness and displays within Fang’s aesthetic.
- Promote the Fang brand in the store through visual merchandising.
- Support the team by participating in events as scheduled.
Financial Management
- Demonstrate proficiency in all relevant cash handling procedures.
- Be aware of sales goals and work to achieve and exceed them.
Qualifications:
- A love for and working knowledge of plant care, with a focus on outdoor perennials, shrubs, fruits and vegetables.
- Ideal candidate will have nursery, agriculture, garden center or strong hobby gardening experience.
- Ideal candidate will have 1 year minimum of previous retail and POS experience.
Physical Demand and Work Environment:
This position requires standing and walking for up to 10 hours per day. It also requires lifting a minimum of 50 lbs, bending, and climbing during the shifts to complete the required tasks.
