Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team. This position requires a strong understanding of laboratory procedures, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Summary of Duties
- Assist the Laboratory Manager as needed and appropriate in performing laboratory duties and functions
- Oversee hour-to-hour / day-to-day specimen flow
- Provide the final check of validity, accuracy and precision, recording and sign-off on all laboratory values reported via LIS (and by other means) to clinic providers
- Monitor and oversee daily and weekly quality controls for all laboratory assays and internal controls for multiple analyzers and all other automated assay devices used
- Perform a variety of microscopic analyses on swab specimens, urine sediment, and blood hematology RBC, Platelet and WBC identification and morphology
- Act, as needed, as a liaison between Laboratory staff, professional staff, clinic leadership and others to facilitate the timely, accurate, and precise completion of laboratory requests and problem solve lab issues as they arise
- Assist the Laboratory Director and Lab Manager, as needed, in selecting appropriate methodologies for testing and patient sample analysis
- Assist with Phlebotomy procedures as needed
- Assist the Lab Manager in verification and validation of test procedures, test precision and accuracy, and timeliness of result reporting
- Assist the Lab Manager in establishing, performing and documenting a Quality Control and Quality Assurance Program
- Assist the Lab Manager in establishing a laboratory proficiency testing program, and in that program assist in resolving technical problems and assuring that appropriate remedial and corrective actions are taken
- Assist in assuring that patients test results are not reported when controls are outside of the normal, acceptable range
- Help assure that laboratory tests and test results are reviewed and reported to requesting providers or, in their absence, to their nursing support staff at the end of each business day and that critical / urgent results are given to the ordering provider, the on-call nurse, or on-call physician for immediate disposition
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and quality control measures in the laboratory
- Keep laboratory equipment well-maintained and calibrated for optimal performance
- Stay updated with advancements in laboratory technology and techniques
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Required
- Fully understand and be able to monitor all pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical clinical laboratory operations
- Understand and supervise all operational SOPs and policies (including those for CLIA -waived testing)
- Track and perform all quality assurance programs, proficiency testing, and monitoring
- Perform all quality controls for all instruments and analytes measured in and by Laboratory personnel, document the use of controls, standards and assurances used in laboratory operations
- Evaluate laboratory normal and abnormal results, have an intricate working knowledge of all the equipment used in the laboratory, and be able to troubleshoot those assays and pieces of lab equipment
- Current ASCP certified (or NCA accreditation) as an MLT, with appropriate degrees, credentials, education, training and abilities
- Have an understanding of proficiency testing for CLIA and the State of Oregon, and perform proficiency testing as needed
- Effective communication skills for collaboration with medical staff.

Pay: $25.00 - $34.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
