The Job
A brand NEW experience opened at the iconic FAO Schwarz flagship in late 2024 – the FAO.abulous Boutique, which features customized makeup palettes and makeovers to get your little one ready for a night out on the town! The Makeup Artist is responsible for providing personalized beauty services to our guests, ensuring they receive care and attention while creating a memorable experience.
We are looking for an energetic and experienced makeup artist with a passion for working with children to offer a world-class guest experience in the heart of NYC. This is a part-time position with scheduling needs across mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

What You’ll Do
Guest
§ Use the FAO Schwarz selling vision to effectively engage and delight each guest.
§ Build authentic connections with guests to build rapport and relationships during their visit.
§ Demonstrate product knowledge by introducing key items to guests based on your understanding of their needs.
§ Provide professional makeup services, including consultations, application, and lessons, tips, or tricks.
§ Educate customers on product usage and application methods.
§ Stay updated on current makeup trends and product innovations.
§ Handle customer inquiries and complaints professionally and effectively.
§ Uphold the brand image and maintain a positive attitude.
§ Assist customers in selecting products that best suit their needs and preferences.
§ Ask open-ended questions, listen to customer needs, and provide an interactive experience by offering product recommendations
§ Be able to adapt your style to engage both children and adults as they visit us in the store.
§ Demonstrate great selling techniques to meet or exceed sales goals and KPIs.
§ Be the expert in your area and ensure all information provided is accurate.
Team
§ Make recommendations to evolve and innovate the experience to excite our guests.
§ Share expertise with colleagues to help elevate experiences for our guests.
§ Maintain a positive, enthusiastic, helpful and professional attitude with your fellow team members
§ Work in a supportive, team atmosphere focused on creating an exceptional guest experience
§ Foster an atmosphere of open and positive communication, professionalism and creativity at all times
§ Maintain high standards of timekeeping on counter to ensure team efficiency
Store
§ Complete weekly assigned administrative tasks to ensure all experience supplies are available to fulfill guest orders.
§ Escalate any maintenance issues that may prevent delivering the experience as planned.
§ Maintain good understanding of store layout and local area to be able to effectively and accurately handle guest queries.
§ Handle POS transactions, adhering to policies and procedures to accurately process each transaction for the guest.
§ Demonstrate an understanding of basic merchandising principles in order to maintain the floor layout and planograms on a daily basis.
§ Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area
§ Ensure all tools and equipment are sanitized and in good working condition.
§ Ensure that the store is ‘customer ready’ from open to close of business and support the upkeep throughout the day
§ Maintain excellent store hygiene standards. Clean display units, brushes, tools and testers, etc. throughout the day and restock the makeup stations and display after each use
§ Assist with maintaining the required inventory to include stock counts and timely replenishments
§ Maintain the store visual standards and policies at all times
What You Have
§ 1 year experience in a fast-paced premium retail or experience-based environment preferred.
§ Prior experience in providing professional makeup application and exceptional guest service.
§ License to administer makeup services in NYC preferred.
§ Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to influence in a clear and concise manner.
§ Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
§ A love of the FAO brand.
§ An engaging and theatrical personality that can delight our guests.
§ Flexible availability in line with a Flagship Retail environment across days, evenings and weekends.
§ Capable of lifting up to 25 pounds, and bending, twisting, and standing for long periods of time in all types of weather
