Position Summary: Far Brook School is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented School Custodian to ensure that our facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained. This individual will be responsible for performing a wide range of janitorial and light maintenance duties, keeping the premises in top condition for the school community and visitors.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Understand, support, and execute the Far Brook School and .
- Responsible for the duties and tasks outlined below as well as additional duties as directed by your supervisor.
Janitorial Duties:
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, and other common areas.
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors, ensuring high standards of cleanliness.
- Empty trash bins and dispose of waste properly.
- Clean and sanitize windows, walls, and other surfaces.
- Replenish cleaning supplies, paper products, and soap dispensers as needed.
- Dust and clean furniture, light fixtures, and vents.
- Disinfect high-touch areas such as doorknobs, handrails, and elevator buttons.
Maintenance Duties:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including minor repairs of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Assemble, install, and relocate furniture, as needed.
- Change light bulbs and perform basic electrical maintenance.
- Assist with seasonal maintenance, including landscaping (seasonal planting and watering, snow removal, leaf blowing and debris removal.)
- Maintain and repair basic equipment and systems, such as door locks, hinges, and window seals.
- Report any major repairs or replacements needed to the Associate Director of Operations.
General Facility Support:
- Set up and break down meeting rooms and event spaces as needed.
- Monitor building security and report any maintenance or safety concerns.
- Follow all safety procedures and protocols, including the proper handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Respond to emergency cleaning or maintenance requests in a timely manner.
- Maintain an organized and tidy janitorial closet and maintenance areas.
- Perform inventory checks and restock supplies as needed.
Qualifications/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous janitorial and/or maintenance experience preferred.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, tools, and products.
- Basic knowledge of building systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC).
- Ability to perform light repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Good physical stamina, capable of lifting and moving equipment or supplies.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
- Ability to work with cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Reporting Relationship:
- Reports directly to the Associate Director of Operations.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
