What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance/Facilities Technician position at Far Hills Country Day School?
This opening is building the team under a new supervisor who embraces the facilities team with improved relationships and energy for a positive team. The former supervisor is no longer associated with our school.
The ideal candidate performs inspections, maintenance, and repairs to ensure that all students, school personnel, and community members are provided with a safe, attractive, clean, and healthy environment for learning and work.
Essential Functions
- Works with the Director of Facilities to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
- Responsible for setups to include tables, displays, and arranging seating for indoor/outdoor events.
- Performs tasks such as planting, mowing, weeding, sweeping, raking, and striping of the athletic fields.
- Performs site maintenance and repair work, sanding equipment; maintaining playgrounds and parking lots; and lawn and tree maintenance.
- Must be on standby for snow assistance calls outside of work schedule. Snow removal will be done on-site with the provided equipment.
- Ability to operate various types of equipment, including power mowers, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, etc.
- Maintains assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment to ensure availability in safe operating conditions.
- Responsible for transporting a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure the availability of materials required in classrooms, common areas, and fields.
- Displays cooperative, pleasant, and professional behavior at all times, especially when in the presence of staff, students, community visitors, and outside agencies.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours as the schedule changes due to the school's needs or projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Prior experience in a school or campus environment is ideal but willing to train.
- Background in machinery, equipment, and tools necessary for the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds.
- Knowledgeable in various building maintenance procedures and techniques.
- Educated in occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Skill in using hand and power tools.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Must be able to use a computer for training and work order submissions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.
- Capable of implementing safety practices and recognizing hazards during any situation.
- Ability to work independently; visualize and anticipate the result needed.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather.
- Physical ability to perform the above-listed essential functions. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs or more.
- Uniforms must be kept clean and worn at all times.
Qualifications:
- Hold and maintain a New Jersey driver’s license in good standing.
- Experience and knowledge of most aspects of building and grounds maintenance for both indoor and outdoor jobs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
