What are the responsibilities and job description for the Traveling Refrigeration Technician (Full-Time) position at Fareway Stores Inc?
JOB FUNCTION:
As a Traveling Refrigeration Technician, you will play a pivotal role in the ability to pipe, maintain and repair refrigeration throughout the Fareway Meat & Grocery network of stores.
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Install piping and condensing units
- Start up, test and observe systems to ensure proper function for its operating life
- Service & maintain existing systems
- Follow refrigeration piping best practices, keeping up on industry standards
- Troubleshoot refrigeration systems with different needs
- Replace faulty refrigeration parts
- Answer any questions that stores may have about their refrigeration systems
- Under minimal supervision, perform advanced refrigeration maintenance and repair at stores
- Direct and oversee the work of contractors
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience working with refrigeration systems
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical instructions
- Ability to use various tools without needing supervision
- Excellent communication skills
- Proven ability to work independently
- Experience in performing advanced refrigeration diagnosis, maintenance, and repair
- Electrical and mechanical skills are a plus
- Ability to accommodate overnight travel
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to climb stairs, bend, kneel, twist, reach, and pull frequently
- Must be able to lift items more than 50 lbs. occasionally, 25 lbs. frequently, and 10 – 20 lbs. continuously
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Exposure to varying temperatures depending on building:
- Some jobs occur in room temperature rooms, 60°F - 85°F
- Some jobs occur in refrigerated rooms, 28°F - 45°F
- Some jobs occur in freezer rooms, -20°F – 0°F
- Campus warehouses have a noisy and busy environment; employees must always remain alert
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Work 47 hours per week
- No ammonia exposure
- Traveling 2-3 days per week
- Paid mileage
- $50 per diem while overnight
- Wage starting at $24/hr with top wage at $31
- Pre-Employment work screen and background check required

This position will be based out of our Distribution Center Complex in Boone, IA.
