What You’ll Do: As an Ag Underwriter , you will exercise underwriting judgement to determine rate and risk selection for all agriculture lines of business. This includes reviewing changes, making modifications, rejections, cancellations, and non-renewal decisions in accordance with FBL policy. You will be responsible for assisting and educating the agency force through daily interaction, as well as assisting the claims department with ag claims settlement questions. You will define, implement and monitor a client service strategy consistent with our companies mission and vision. As an Ag Underwriter, you will also be in-office support for the Ag Marketing Underwriters out in the field. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the retention of profitable business through sound underwriting decisions and exceptional customer service.
What It Takes to Join Our Team:
- College degree or equivalent plus 5 years of relevant insurance experience is required.
- Agriculture background/knowledge and underwriting/claims/insurance experience is preferred.
- Strong customer service skills are required, including solid verbal communication and business professional writing skills. Must maintain a positive, customer focused attitude at all times.
- Must have excellent problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills are required to quickly learn our multiple systems.
- Must keep up-to-date regarding local, state and federal rules and regulations to insure government compliance and meet company guidelines.
- Must be able to meet deadlines, work under pressure and shift priorities to achieve corporate and business unit goals.
- Progress towards industry education is expected (AINS, AFIS, CPCU, etc).
- Work from our office in West Des Moines, IA.
