Assistant Controller
REPORTS TO: Corporate Controller
The Assistant Controller will be a key member of the Company’s Management and Finance & Accounting team. He/she will be responsible for leading the month-end close process and performing certain tasks as part of the close cycle, will play a key role with the annual financial audit, will assist with financial reporting, and will assist with process initiatives and other projects.
Primary Responsibilities
- Review and perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures.
- Perform the financial consolidation process.
- Perform the accounting for certain Companies and be willing to assist others as needed.
- Independently prepare and/or review journal entries, account rollforwards, and account reconciliations on a regular basis by the deadlines assigned.
- Ability to work with large data sets to ensure accuracy and completion of supporting documentation.
- Assist with financial reporting.
- Analyze data and work with leaders to understand the key drivers and identify trends.
- Play a vital role in the annual financial statement audits and other engagements.
- Ensure proper accounting policies, procedures and internal controls are in place and followed to safeguard the assets of the Company and to ensure that all financial transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage and lead projects to completion and effectively communicate progress made.
- Collaborate with multiple teams to streamline processes, implement new workflows as needed, test results following implementations, and provide timely status updates.
- Prepare process documentation with team members and ensure they are current.
- Crosstrain and mentor team members.
- Research technical accounting matters and propose accounting treatment. Document accounting policies as needed referencing the appropriate GAAP guidance.
- Interact with all levels of the organization and possess a strong combination of interpersonal skills, business acumen, and technical competencies.
- Participate in a wide variety of special projects. Prepare reports and ad hoc analysis as requested.
- Comply with all reporting, accounting and audit requirements imposed by regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate directly with the Corporate Controller and Company Management on reporting, analysis, and projects.
Qualifications
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, with preference given to those with a Master’s degree in accounting. CPA is preferred.
- 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience required with at least two years of public accounting experience desired.
- Must possess a strong understanding of GAAP with the ability to independently research accounting topics, interpret the guidance, and propose appropriate accounting treatment.
- Must be organized, detailed, and able to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
- Collaborate with various teams and effectively lead projects to completion.
- Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Strong ability to learn systems and software. Experience with Spectrum and Prophix preferred.
- Solid skills using Microsoft products including Excel, Word, Adobe, and PowerPoint required.
