Bridge & Highway Carpenter
Capital Paving & Construction looking for Bridge Carpenter/Laborers for projects throughout Missouri. These positions are for heavy highway and bridge projects. The ideal candidate has experience with bridge and highway carpentry. The carpenter is expected to assist in the general operation of each job site. In addition to general carpentry skills, a carpenter’s job consists of but is not limited to the below duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build wood and metal forms
- Build bridge columns, decks, and caps by constructing forms for concrete
- Construct and tear down all forms for assigned project(s)
- Set and tie steel
- Pour, grade, and finish concrete
- Load and unload materials
- Check and maintain grade stakes
- Set up and maintain all traffic control aids
- Perform heavy manual labor including, digging, lifting, climbing, carrying and installation under varying weather conditions while exposed to dampness, fumes, dust, electrical, mechanical and traffic hazards
- Ability to safely operate various tools and power equipment.
- Participate in traffic control as needed.
- Access inside of manholes, enter confined spaces, and work off of ladders
- Participate in stand-by duties, which involves working alone or with coworkers at night, weekends, and holidays to resolve situations that occur after normal business hours
- Demonstrates knowledge of, or the ability to learn safety rules and equipment including identification of precautions for and emergency response to chemical, electrical, and mechanical hazards, and asphyxiating, toxic and explosive gases and vapors
- Maintain equipment and tools and perform general housekeeping on the job site
- Demonstrate good workmanship in a neat and timely manner
- Duties may require working from heights such as bridge beams and bridge caps
- Other duties as required
Requirements
- General carpentry experience required
- Some road construction experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be punctual, have a strong work ethic, and maintain a good attendance record.
- Must be able to work as a team on all projects
- Lift/move up to 50 lbs.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Work overtime, nights, weekends, as needed
- Stand for extended periods of time
- Reliable transportation
