SUMMARY
The Grain Elevator Operator is responsible for grain handling and housekeeping for the Conway Springs location. This position is also responsible for providing maximum service to members and patrons; working as a team; and following safety policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must know, understand, and comply with all safety and governmental regulations. Take responsibility for good grain condition, and monthly facility inspections per OSHA standards.
- Perform required preventative maintenance and have all P.M. reports turned in on time.
- Clean up grain spills.
- Perform housekeeping inside facilities.
- Load out grain.
- Dumping and receiving of producer's grain.
- Scale operation.
- Maintain moisture and temperature of silos and tanks.
- Completion of safety reports and required records.
- Work cooperatively with other locations to help ensure company goals are met Provide excellent customer service by managing difficult or emotional situations, responding promptly to customer needs, resolving questions, complaints, and concerns immediately and meeting commitments.
- Effectively communicate by verbal and written means with customers, employees, and management.
- Take all possible safety precautions to avoid accidents or injuries.
- Maintain and promote safety awareness; follow safety policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or up to six months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have proficient computer operations skills. Willing to seek out and attend additional continuing education, seminars, classes or other job-related education requirements or opportunities.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record. Must obtain and maintain a current KDA 7B certificate.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Able to deal with problems with several concrete variables in standard situations. Must be able to think quickly and perform a mental assessment of workplace hazards, take appropriate precautions, and choose appropriate PPE as dictated by need, regulation, and labeling.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell; stand; walk; sit and climb or balance. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. This may include structural ladders as well as climbing into applicator rigs, large vehicles, and/or tractors. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employees must understand and implement all related safety policies, procedures and programs for prevention and protection while performing job duties in various work environments.
