We are looking for a fun, energetic staff who love working kids and giving them the gift of piano.
Teachers at FMS exhibit outstanding work ethic, integrity, energy, and passion for teaching.
Most students will be beginners, ages 6-7 (young beginners), and 8-12 (regular curriculum). We seek to create musical literacy and piano fluency with our unique piano method that uses technology to assist learning. There are additional opportunities to teach older students.
Unique Lesson Design
Students ages 8 receive 60 minute weekly lessons in classes of up to 6 students. Classes are a combination of lab, practice, and master instruction. Our students ages 6-7 use Piano Safari in a small group setting of 4 students to build dexterity, explore sounds, and learn keyboard geography.
Responsibilities:
- Show up every lesson on time and prepared to teach, deliver effective instruction, and communicate progress to families. Be 100% reliable!
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings.
- Achieve the BIG 3 listed below at the end of this post.
Requirements:
- Belief in our mission.
- Willingness to teach small classes of up to 6 students.
- Availability 2-3 afternoons/evenings per week and/or weekends.
- B.S. in education or music education; or equivalent in piano teaching experience
- Longevity by committing to our studio for at least a year; our top teachers stay for 3 years or more!
- Enthusiasm for developing and teaching summer classes and workshops.
- Proven track record of reliability, professionalism, and creativity
- Willingness to sub for other teachers
Schedule:
- Summer: Wednesdays tentatively 1-6 pm, depending on enrollments. Occasional 2 hour piano workshops on select Mondays through Wednesdays.
- Fall: Wednesdays and Thursdays 3 or 4 pm - 7 pm depending on enrollments.
- Training period: Tuesdays 4-7 pm and Wednesdays 3-7 pm in May
Compensation:
- $25-40 per hour, depending on experience and education

The BIG 3:
1. Communicate: Consistent use of communication tools with families and staff.
- Send all private lesson reports within 24 hours of the lesson or class.
- Send two semi-annual progress reports to all students.
- Utilize staff and tech resources to get your students re-enrolled.
2. Utilize Resources: Consistent use of curriculum program data, Opus1, technology, and assistant teachers to deliver exceptional instruction.
- Assign songs and exercises to students via the curriculum.
- Utilize curriculum dashboard data to monitor student song progress and prepare for lessons.
- Monitor feedback from parents, TA's, and colleagues to improve instruction
3. Build Community: Collaboration, retention, growth.
- Your students participate in at least three music events per year.
- You retain your students throughout a year and re-enroll your students into the summer and/or next school year.
- Your students recommend our studio to friends and relatives.
