Position Purpose / Summary
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing the daily operations of a production shift in a pet food manufacturing facility, ensuring quality standards, productivity, and safety protocols are consistently met. This role involves supervising a team of production workers, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring the efficient production of high-quality pet food products in compliance with company standards and FDA regulations. The Shift Supervisor plays a vital role in optimizing production flow, minimizing downtime, and addressing production challenges in real time.
Work Environment
This role involves working in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to loud noise, heavy machinery, and varying temperatures. The Shift Supervisor may be required to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. PPE must be worn in designated areas.
Requirements
- 2nd Shift hours during start up will be 10am to 6pm Monday through Friday. At some point at the end of commissioning the 2nd shift hours will change to 2pm to 10pm. There may be times where extra time and weekend work may be required.
- Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food or pet food industry.
- Strong understanding of FDA regulations, HACCP, and GMPs for pet food production.
- Skills
- Proven leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in using manufacturing software, MS Office, and familiar with ERP systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervision & Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of production workers, providing direction, motivation, and support to achieve production goals.
- Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and ensure compliance with plant policies and safety regulations.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and safety.
- Production Management
- Oversee daily production operations during assigned shift, ensuring that production schedules are met efficiently and on time.
- Monitor production line operations and equipment, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Implement adjustments to improve process efficiency, reduce waste, and maintain product quality.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure that all products meet the quality standards and specifications established by the company and regulatory agencies.
- Conduct routine quality checks, document findings, and ensure corrective actions are taken when needed.
- Maintain compliance with safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations, including FDA and USDA standards for pet food.
- Safety & Risk Management
- Promote and enforce a safe working environment by adhering to OSHA regulations, conducting safety training, and ensuring that team members follow safety protocols.
- Address potential safety hazards promptly and implement corrective measures to prevent accidents.
- Continuous Improvement
- Lead and participate in process improvement initiatives, contributing ideas for cost-saving and efficiency projects.
- Utilize lean manufacturing techniques and data analysis to streamline production processes.
