Job Title: Purchasing Storeroom Supervisor
Reports To: Purchasing and Inventory Manager
Supervises: Purchasing Storeroom Clerks
Job Summary:
The Purchasing Storeroom Supervisor oversees daily storeroom operations, inventory control, and product distribution. This role ensures efficient stock management and supports purchasing functions while maintaining cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety regulations. In the absence of the Purchasing and Inventory Manager, the Supervisor assumes key purchasing responsibilities, including vendor coordination and inventory decisions. This position requires a high level of trustworthiness and responsibility, as well as adherence to company values in daily interactions and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Operations & Inventory Management:
- Supervise storeroom clerks, assigning tasks and ensuring smooth daily operations.
- Oversee receiving, inspecting, and verifying incoming deliveries, reporting discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate inventory records, monitor stock levels, and ensure proper stock rotation.
- Ensure proper storage of food items, maintaining compliance with food safety guidelines.
- Issue and distribute food, beverage, and supply requisitions to departments.
- Ensure storerooms are clean, organized, and compliant with food safety regulations.
- Conduct off-property runs as needed to support purchasing and delivery requirements.
Purchasing & Vendor Coordination (Manager Backup Role):
- Serve as the Purchasing and Inventory Manager’s backup on scheduled days off.
- Approve small purchases or reorder low-stock items within defined limits.
- Communicate with vendors regarding deliveries, substitutions, and quality concerns.
- Work with department managers to fulfill urgent inventory needs.
Staff Supervision & Training:
- Train storeroom clerks on inventory control, proper storage, and safety procedures.
- Oversee clerks’ performance and provide feedback to the Purchasing Manager.
- Assist in scheduling storeroom staff and ensuring coverage, if needed.
Reporting & Compliance:
- Conduct and participate in periodic inventory counts and audits.
- Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and storage regulations.
- Report any inventory discrepancies, waste, or loss to management.
- Assist in generating purchasing and inventory reports.
- Ensure accountability and uphold ethical standards in all purchasing and inventory-related tasks.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Experience in purchasing, inventory, or storeroom operations preferred.
- Experience in grocery store receiving, ordering, purchasing, or food quality assessment is highly desirable. Former chefs or cooks looking to transition into a new role within the kitchen are also encouraged to apply.
Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a DMV motor vehicle report check due to the large amount of off-property runs.
- Must be highly trustworthy and demonstrate strong ethical decision-making.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in inventory management software and basic computer applications.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate across departments.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
- Comfortable walking up and down stairs with products.
- Ability to bend, twist, and stand for extended periods.
- Must be able to work in refrigerated and dry storage environments.
- Must be able to safely operate a vehicle for off-property runs.
