- Performs all the regular evaluative assessments of student health and duties listed in the School Nurse job description.

- Provides direct school nursing services when necessary due to nurse absences
- Supervises and supports the District’s school nurses and health office clerks
- Assists school administrators in the evaluation of school nurses and assists the Director of Special Services or designee in evaluating the District float nurse and health office clerks
- Supports administrators in recruiting, hiring, inducting and training new school nurses and health office clerks
- Establishes and manages required health screening programs
- Ensures school nurse protocols, including those in the District’s nursing manual, are current and align with legal requirements and best practices for school heath, safety and wellness
- Regularly communicates and collaborates with the District’s medical advisor as well as the Connecticut Department of Public Health, the Connecticut State Department of Education, the Farmington Valley Health District (FVHD), and other agencies on matters related to school health, safety and wellness
- Routinely visits school health offices to support school nurse and health staff and to ensure professional behavior that is ethical and in accordance with legal requirements and best practice
- Participates in PPT and Section 504 meetings as requested
- Serves as a member of the District’s Health and Wellness Committees
- Coordinates, maintains and submits records and reports required by District policy and state agencies
- Supports school nurses and staff in developing and implementing care plans for students with complex medical needs
- Advises administrators and school nurse and health staff on budget development and the purchase and distribution of health equipment and supplies
- Assists the Special Services Department in scheduling and coordinating the assignment of substitute nurses, including 1:1 nurses
- Maintains a cooperative working relationship with faculty, staff and administrators
- Such other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services or designee
- Instructs school nurses in the operation of testing and other medical equipment.
- Provides ongoing, high-quality training and professional development to the District’s school health and nursing staff in accordance with best practices and legal requirements

Farmington Public Schools has an opening at West Woods Upper Elementary School for a full time, school year .5 District Nursing Supervisor / .5 School Nurse.
General Description: This position will work half time at WWUES as a school nurse with half time duties as the Nursing Supervisor for the district.
The Farmington Public Schools Nursing Supervisor (.5) oversees the District’s school health and nursing program and staff, which currently consists of seven building-based school nurses, one District-wide floating nurse, and two part-time health office clerks. This position oversees the implementation of Board policy and regulations related to health. The Nursing Supervisor serves as a resource to, and as liaison between and among, school nurses, health office clerks, students and their families, administrators, faculty and staff in matters related to school health, wellness and safety. This position includes the preparation of reports, scheduling of meetings, and coordination of health and screening programs.
The School Nurse implements Board of Education policy and regulations related to health. This position is responsible for instructing and assisting students in maintaining good physical, mental, and social health. The role of the School Nurse was created for the purpose(s) of supporting school staff in assessing the health needs of students, developing emergency care plans and individual health plans. Complying with the laws relating to student health, including parental and guardian consent; providing appropriate care of ill, medically fragile and/or injured students; providing health information and serving as a resource to parents, guardians, teachers, staff, and administrators; and identifying health problems for referral for proper treatment.
