Elementary Specialized Learning Center (SLC) Teacher (Gr K-4) starts August 2025

Description: West District Elementary School Special Learning Center Teacher SLC (full time) beginning August 2025.

Qualifications: Education: A bachelor's degree in special education or a related field is typically required.

• Certification: Special education certification in Connecticut is required. (065, 165)
• Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential. Excellent generlal education inclusion practices strongly perferred.
• Experience: Experience with ABA, DTI
• Other: Ability to work collaboratively, adapt to changing situations, and manage a diverse classroom
  
  

Salary: $55,018- $111,829 salary based upon education and experience; part time positions are pro-rated

Job Responsibilities

• Assessment and Evaluation:
• Assess students' skills and determine their educational needs.
• Conduct special education evaluations and reevaluations.
• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Instruction and IEP Development:
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to meet each student's unique needs.
• Adapt general lessons to meet students' needs.
• Plan activities that are specific to each student's abilities.
• Teach and mentor students in various settings (class, small groups, one-on-one).
• Collaboration and Communication:
• Work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and other professionals.
• Participate in school staff meetings, PPTs (Plan and Placement Teams), and Treatment Team meetings.
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and IEP implementation.
• Classroom Management and Environment:
• Create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Manage student behavior according to school policies and procedures.
• Provide a safe and structured environment.
• Documentation and Record Keeping:
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and IEP implementation.
• Follow state and local guidelines for record keeping and reporting.
