Farmington High School is seeking an experienced American Sign Language Teacher part time (0.6 FTE) starting August 2025.
General Description: The High School American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher will provide instruction to students in the principles, grammar, and vocabulary of American Sign Language. The teacher will be responsible for creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment that supports students in their language acquisition and cultural understanding of the Deaf community. The ASL teacher will also promote language fluency and foster an appreciation for Deaf culture and the significance of ASL in the broader community.

Qualifications
- Education and Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language, Special Education, or a related field.
- Must be eligible for State of CT certification (057 or similar). Candidates with ASL experience preferred.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (advanced proficiency level preferred).
- Experience:
- Previous experience teaching ASL or working with Deaf students is preferred.
- Knowledge of Deaf culture, history, and community engagement.
- Skills:
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to teach in both spoken and signed language.
- Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Organizational skills to manage classroom activities and student progress.
- Patience, empathy, and flexibility to work with diverse student populations.
