What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary Social Emotional Learning Instructional Specialist position at Farmington School District?
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The SEL Instructional Specialist will promote effective social, emotional, and behavioral strategies and understanding within our students and staff through direct instruction and support. In addition, the SEL Instructional Specialist serves as a resource and coach for other staff members to improve overall behavioral proficiency. The goal for the SEL Instructional Specialist is to improve classroom instructional practices in ways that enhance students’ social and emotional learning and development.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.*
- NH Teacher certification with K-8 or K-12 Endorsement*
- Experience coordinating and providing coaching to educators and leading professional development activities.*
- Experience and knowledge of the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning and the core competencies.*
- Knowledge of Social Emotional Curriculum, such as Michelle Garcia Winner’s Social Thinking Curriculum.*
- Experience working with students who struggle with SEL and behavior.*
- Familiarity with evidence based approaches for SEL in schools and classrooms.*
- Knowledge of best practices in the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support model to promote students’ social and emotional needs.*
- Ability to develop responsible and respectful professional relationships with staff.*
- Multi-tasker who is excellent at time management, motivated, and possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.*
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree in Education or related field*
- Background in Special Education and/or ABA*
- Classroom teaching experience*
- Experience writing behavior plans*
- Seclusion and Restraint certification (CPI)*
REPORTS TO
Building Principal
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Be an active part of school level teams and staff to implement evidence based interventions to effect positive social, emotional, and behavioral changes in all of our students.*
- Provide coaching to grow teachers’ capacity through the implementation of best practices to promote SEL and tiers one, two, and three interventions and supports.*
- Establish and promote positive learning environments and classroom management practices.*
- Model best practices and teach lessons when appropriate.*
- Consult and instruct staff in the development, implementation, and assessment of intervention strategies and plans designed to help individual students and/or groups of students.*
- Collaborate with teaching and support staff to provide consultation with parents and families with topics related to SEL wellness.*
- Serve as a facilitator for school and system level SEL professional learning opportunities and work.*
- Participate in weekly guidance meetings to build capacity and facilitate learning and discussions.*
- Maintain confidentiality of information concerning colleagues, students, and parents.*
- Maintain a respectful environment and open communication with students.*
- Continually seek to motivate students for the learning task at hand.*
- Identify strengths and weaknesses in students.*
- Support and assist building staff in maintaining order and appropriate behavior among students.*
- Provide reasonable care and safety of assigned students at any particular time.*
- Utilize instructional materials and other educational resources in a competent and effective manner.*
- Utilize a variety of resources to enhance the teaching and learning process.*
- In collaboration with general and special education teachers, modify general education curriculum for students based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies*
- Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.*
- Knowledge of relevant technology.*
- Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district and state.*
