Position Title: Lead Custom Framer
Department: Frame Shop
Reports To: Frame Shop Manager
Job Summary:
The Lead Custom Framer plays a key role in providing high-quality framing services and exceptional customer experiences at our framing shop. This position involves leading the framing team, collaborating with customers to understand their framing needs, and executing framing projects with precision and attention to detail. The Lead Custom Framer oversees all aspects of the framing process, from consultation and design to assembly and completion, ensuring that each framing project meets the highest standards of craftsmanship and customer satisfaction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Framing Consultation and Design:
- Welcome customers to the framing shop and engage with them to understand their framing requirements, preferences, and budget.
- Provide expert guidance and recommendations on framing materials, styles, and design options based on customers' artwork and objectives.
- Collaborate with customers to create custom framing designs that enhance and protect their artwork while meeting their aesthetic preferences.
- Frame Assembly and Construction:
- Lead the framing team in executing framing projects according to established quality standards and timelines.
- Measure, cut, and assemble frames using various framing tools and equipment, ensuring precision and accuracy in frame construction.
- Select appropriate matting, mounting, and glazing materials to complement artwork and achieve desired framing effects.
- Artwork Handling and Conservation:
- Handle artwork with care and precision during the framing process, following best practices for artwork conservation and preservation.
- Ensure that artwork is properly secured, protected, and framed using archival-quality materials to prevent damage and deterioration over time.
- Customer Service and Satisfaction:
- Provide excellent customer service throughout the framing process, from initial consultation to project completion.
- Communicate effectively with customers to keep them informed about the status of their framing projects and address any questions or concerns.
- Strive to exceed customer expectations by delivering high-quality framing solutions and personalized service.
- Team Leadership and Training:
- Supervise and mentor framing team members, providing guidance, support, and training as needed to ensure consistent quality and productivity.
- Coordinate scheduling and workload distribution for the framing team to optimize efficiency and meet customer demand.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that values teamwork, creativity, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience in custom framing or a related field, with a strong understanding of framing techniques, materials, and equipment.
- Demonstrated expertise in frame assembly, matting, mounting, and glazing, with a focus on craftsmanship and attention to detail:
- Stretching canvas
- Cutting standard mat
- Chopping and joining frames and stretcher bars
- Cutting and assembling fillets
- Archivally mounting art
- Papering the back of completed project, attaching wire, hanger, and the company sticker
- Wrapping and cornering each completed project
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to engage with customers professionally and empathetically.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a track record of supervising and mentoring framing team members.
- Proficiency in framing tools and equipment, including mat cutters, frame joiners, and mounting presses.
- Knowledge of artwork conservation principles and archival framing practices.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
- Flexibility to work weekdays, weekends, and occasional evenings as needed to accommodate customer schedules and project deadlines.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 36 – 40 per week
