We are seeking a highly experienced Technical Director to lead the technical management of our clients tanker fleet. Reporting to the Vice President of Fleet, this role is crucial in overseeing the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of vessels, ensuring they meet all regulatory, customer, and company standards.

Please note, you must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder as sponsorship isn't available for this role.

The Technical Director will manage dry-docking, repairs, maintenance planning, and budgeting, while driving initiatives to reduce costs and minimize vessel downtime.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Fleet Oversight : Provide strategic oversight for all technical aspects of the fleet, including maintenance, repairs, and major projects such as dry-docking.
  • Regulatory Compliance : Ensure vessels meet all applicable local, national, and international regulations, and oversee class and regulatory surveys to maintain relevant certifications.
  • Repair and Dry-docking Management : Plan and supervise dry-docking and major repairs, ensuring that all work meets technical and quality standards and that the hull and machinery comply with codes and regulations.
  • Cost Management : Assist in managing Maintenance & Repair (M&R) costs at each port, continuously working to reduce technical expenses and vessel downtime through efficient planning and resource management.
  • Preventative Maintenance : Ensure adherence to the company's preventative maintenance systems, continually improving these processes to enhance operational reliability.
  • Spare Parts & Technology : Introduce systems for strategic spare part inventory planning and implement new technologies and best practices to optimize fleet performance.
  • Collaboration & Communication : Maintain strong lines of communication with Port Engineers, senior management, and other departments to ensure alignment on technical and operational objectives. Foster a collaborative working environment between ship officers, crew, and technical teams.
  • Safety & Environmental Responsibility : Work with the Health, Safety, Security, Quality, and Environmental (HSSQE) team to ensure safety and environmental goals are met. Promote a strong safety culture through regular safety meetings during vessel visits.
  • Budget & Strategy : Finalize and monitor technical budgets, ensuring alignment between the department’s mission and overall company objectives. Support long-term planning for shipyard work and maintenance schedules.
  • Vessel Visits : Conduct periodic visits to vessels to assess performance, address safety issues, and ensure compliance with maintenance and operational standards.

Qualifications :

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering or a related field (Chief Engineer’s License preferred).
  • Experience : 5 years in Maritime Engineering management with experience overseeing fleet technical operations, including repairs, dry-docking, and regulatory compliance.
  • Skills : Proficiency in ABS NS5, AutoCAD, and other relevant technical software. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Traits : Ability to travel as necessary, work flexible hours, and perform hands-on tasks such as climbing ladders and working from elevated surfaces. Must be proactive, detail-oriented, and a strong problem solver.
