Line/Ground Worker

Position Purpose/Summary

The Line/Ground Worker is committed to providing the highest quality of service to the communities, customers, and employees we serve and is dedicated to fulfilling our customers’ needs by offering the latest in technological advances allowing them to keep pace with the growing demands of a global economy .

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• The Line/Ground Worker performs several duties related to the installation, operation, and maintenance of the outside telephone, fiber optic, and C.A.T.V. plant.
• Places cable within underground conduit systems as directed by routine work orders and engineering prints. Also places and maintains direct buried and aerial cable, (telephone, CATV, and fiber optic) and all appurtenances, using digging, boring, plowing, and trenching equipment.
• Responsible for maintaining rights of way by restoring disturbed surfaces, (concrete or pavement), trimming trees, and other landscaping duties, as necessary.
• Operates construction equipment and performs other assigned duties related to cable and conduit placement.
• Grounds and marks new pedestals when installed and installs central office feeder and distribution cable.
• The Line/Ground Worker must work closely with the Team Leader in the area to ensure a workable and viable outside plant.
• The Line/Ground Worker ensures that all grounding procedures are adhered to at pedestal and subscriber locations.
• Responsible to see that all proper paperwork is completed and submitted in a timely manner.
• Responsible to see that all tools and equipment are in good working order, stored properly and reports any defective tools and equipment for replacement or repair.
• Accepts special projects as needs occur.
• Understanding how all departments contribute to the success of the organization and referring customers and employees to the appropriate department to best fulfill their needs.
• Building and maintaining a good rapport and cooperative relationship with customers and co-workers while taking ownership of responsibilities and being accountable for his/her own actions.
• Being an advocate for Company programs and special events while taking initiative to participate and volunteering readily when opportunities arise.
• Performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

At a minimum, the Line/Ground Worker must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid CDL (commercial driver’s license). Must meet on of the following criteria for the Basic Electronics Course:

• All Line/Ground Workers hired from in-house departments, are required to have completed a basic electronics course, or be willing to obtain a basic electronics course from an accredited institute within a required time frame.
• All Line/Ground Workers hired outside of the company, through an employment agency, or by the company, must have completed or be willing to obtain a basic electronics course from an accredited institute within a required time frame.
• All established Line/Ground Workers are not required to have completed a basic electronics course. However, to advance in position or within the company, completion of an approved basic electronics course within a required time frame is required.
