What are the responsibilities and job description for the Video Editor position at FatHappy?
Job Overview:
We’re looking for a sharp, organized, and technically-minded Editor & Post-Production Manager who thrives in a fast-paced creative environment. This role is first and foremost an editorial position—but it’s not just about cutting footage. You’ll also be responsible for overseeing our post-production workflows, managing media and data systems, maintaining software and gear, and ideally stepping into a videographer or producer role on occasion for smaller shoots.
You should have a strong creative eye and be a storyteller, but also have solid technical chops and a systems-thinking mindset. The right candidate will be just as comfortable in a timeline as they are planning backups, troubleshooting an editing system, or organizing data across projects.
Core Responsibilities
Editing & Post-Production (Creative Execution - 45%)
- Edit a variety of video content (commercials, branded content, short-form, doc-style) with attention to pacing, storytelling, and brand alignment.
- Handle sound design, color correction, basic motion graphics, and final delivery across formats.
- Organize, sync, and prep footage for multi-editor projects and/or contractors.
- Maintain a high standard of file organization, labeling, and project archiving.
- Collaborate with producers and directors to bring creative vision to life through edits.
Post-Production & Data Management (Infrastructure – 40%)
- Manage footage intake, organization, and storage across active and archive servers.
- Manage and optimize data workflows, ensuring projects follow best practices for media storage and backup.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency and system performance, optimizing processes, and implementing best practices.
- Ensure editing systems, software, plug-ins, and integrations are updated, functioning properly, and troubleshoot issues as needed.
Project & Task Management (Administrative – 10%)
- Track projects and responsibilities using internal tools or workflows (Vimeo, Monday.com).
- Organize and maintain production documentation, schedules, and databases.
- Communicate regularly with the team to align on priorities and needs.
Accounting & Budget Support (Operations – 5%)
- Collaborate with team members to generate invoices related to their projects and billable data storage.
Qualifications & Skills
- 5 years of professional editing experience.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (especially Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, After Effects a plus).
- Familiarity with remote collaboration tools (Frame.io, Slack, Vimeo, Google Drive, etc.).
- In-depth understanding of computer systems, editing software, and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Experience managing data workflows and storage systems (e.g., NAS/SAN, cloud storage, backups).
- Familiarity with basic accounting concepts and budget tracking.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with an ability to multitask and self-prioritize.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment.
- Analytical thinker with a proactive mindset and strong attention to detail.
- Be available to work outside regular hours when projects demand it.
- A proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
- Willingness to go above and beyond to ensure the success of projects.
- Positive team player with the ability to take direction and offer support where needed.
- Demonstrates initiative and ownership of responsibilities, requiring minimal oversight.
- Interest in ongoing gear trends and emerging post-production technologies.
Nice to Have
- Experience as a videographer, shooting high-quality video content across a range of formats (commercials, docu-style and testimonial, b-roll and event videography, branded content, drone footage capture, etc.)
- Experience independently producing own small scale projects: planning, coordinating, and executing through shooting and editing.
- Drone videography equipment and experience.
