Summary

Prepares unhoused adult clients for employment and life skills with the purpose of obtaining stable income and housing. Conducts classes and develops curriculum to teach principles, techniques, and methods in various subjects, such as Computer Basics, Resume Workshop, Interviewing, Job Applications, Housing Preparation, and Credit and Budgeting. Displays patience, promotes enthusiasm for learning, and guides and encourages clients to reach their employment and educational goals.

Essential Functions

  • Develops curriculum, plans, prepares, and conducts relevant and practical employment and life skill class lessons and monitors student’s performance; supports the FEP Generalist when needed in facilitating the Challenge to Change curriculum
  • Responsible for effective classroom management; establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons
  • Works with students one-on-one when they need extra help or attention
  • Communicates regularly with Supervisor concerning department, program, and client issues
  • Confers regularly with Program Supervisor, case managers, housing navigators, and Residential and other staff members, regarding the clients’ success and challenges
  • As a member of the EES Team, collaborates with staff to promote success, resolve barriers, and implement/sponsor programs/services and opportunities. Participates in staff meetings, and program/department reviews and collaborates in EES-wide events. Is flexible in supporting the program by taking on temporary duties when needed.
  • Enforces program and agency policy and procedures for behavior in the classroom, and provides a positive learning environment
  • Ensures accurate and timely documentation in the CSTAR client database, including updating module service and case notes; updates goals in ADP bi-monthly throughout the year
  • On-time completion of assigned training and policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education , Communications, Social Services or equivalent experience; and one (1) year of experience in instruction and curriculum development
  • Knowledge of adult learners and alternative educational methods and the ability to apply these methods to adult, homeless and multicultural students
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
  • Intermediate user of MS Office, focusing on basic computer instruction and MS Word resume building
  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License and be able to qualify for insurance coverage
  • Participate in an annual Tuberculosis screening and/or other screenings when necessary
